• Coaltown Highlander [Custom MvM Mission]

It's been a few days since MvM's release, and we've already started diving into the files that make up MvM. As it was inevitably bound, somebody was going to have to make a custom MvM mission. And here it is! Coaltown Highlander! Bear in mind this project was one of the first of its kind and was my first project. Due to this, it will likely be rough around the edges. Please be sure to leave feedback on what you liked, what you didn't like, any bugs you've noticed or suggestions you have. What is Coaltown Highlander, you say? Well, let me ask you something first. Is there a class that you absolutely cannot stand in MvM? Yes? Well, I've got some BAD NEWS FOR YOU. You're going to be DEALING with that bot (and a lot of it) in THIS mode! Coaltown Highlander consists of nine waves, one for each class (except for Engineer because Valve didn't set him up right), and a final wave consisting of giant versions of all those menaces in one wave. Each wave conssts of several variants of their stock class. Each wave features at least one giant of their class at some point throughout the wave. Of these waves, the Pyro, Sniper, and Spy waves include a tank. But wait, that's not all! Did you think that you could get by simply on killing REGULAR enemies? Well you [B]BETTER THINK AGAIN[/B]. Not only does this mode feature obnoxious regular enemies, but it has obnoxious [I]special[/I] ones too! [B]How to install[/B]: To install this, you will need to download the zip file at the bottom of this post. The zip file will containt a tf folder within it. You must extract this to your [B]server[/B]'s /tf/ folder (this file is for the server only, clients do not need it). Installation does not require a server restart and should not require a mapchange. Once it is installed, there are two ways to activate it. Either 1) Have the server admin execute "tf_mvm_popfile mvm_coaltown_highlander" OR 2) Using the in-game voting system, call a vote to change mission and find "Highlander". Simply call a vote and if approved, it should take. You can put it on a listen server. Just put it in your client files and do either of the two steps.

We'll just have to try it out and see, though.
I think it's working, I joined and there are 9 waves.
We've got four as it is. Just need two more.

Well that was fun, but damn, that last wave was hard, also sorry for having to leave :x Also I was the rapist.
Thanks to everybody who played. I got a lot of info out from all this. Time to tweak a few things here and there and get a v1.06 out after a bit more playtesting.

I was spectating for a while and few comments about this difficulty Soldier battalion spawn on the end of wave 2 is a bit useless, only 2 Battalions or 1 Battalion + 1 Buff spawns and will get mowed down instantly. 1001st Demo has unlimited HP recharge due to its sword converting ammo to HP, making minigun, sentry and other high DPS weapon ineffective. However I think this is fine, maybe a small HP nerf (to 150 or 125) could balance it a bit. Otherwise I say this is a fun and challenging mission, propa to Gamemaster :)

I'll reduce the max number of spawnable battalions to fix that. I may reduce their health. That ought to be sufficient. [editline]19th August 2012[/editline] Okay, so given the difficulty of some of these waves and how I can't make certain others too difficult at all, I'm going to possibly gradually change the mix-up. For starters, I am considering making the Medics first in the lineup. But for now, leave the rest of the lineup how it is. That way, I can slowly transition class changes and that would give more money for waves like scout.

I've gotten by wave 2 with a team before, but it is very difficult for as early as it is. I'm going to bump it back to wave 3 or 4 though, so more upgrades can be gotten first. Turns out I left a few values too high on the sniper round. I dropped them down to make it manageable.

Found some bugs you should be noticed about; 1. Demoknights that use the Scimitar are rather overpowered, they get health every millisecond, like they're getting ammo every millisecond. 2. Little Heavies with Steel, are not what they are, they're just the typical heavies using minigun, and no Steel gauntlets. 3. A strange bug happened, where everyone's TF2 (But not server) crashed when on Heavy's Wave, dunno why. Should see what it was...

Should see what it was...[/QUOTE] The Demoknights with the Persuader are indeed regaining health rapidly, I have nerfed their HP to be much lower so they should be able to be oneshotted by most classes. I will have to restrict them to melee only. That is my mistake. That is very strange. I do not know what would cause that as I've never had the issue before.
