OK, quick questions...
First, what is, in your opinion, the hat that clashes the MOST of the traditional TF2 art style? A typical answer might be the Dapper Topper, but you may think it fits. So what is it for you?
On the other hand, what hat fits seamlessly into the TF2 word, so much that it could have been included on release without a hitch? You may not like it, such as the Mining Light, but you can see that it fits.
Then weapons- which weapon is the most balanced, so much so that it's the fabled 'sidegrade' the TF2 sought to create?
And again, which one is so bad that the word sidegrade was minced and fed to the dogs?
This isn't arguing that TF2 has been ruined. It's just to see people's takes on it all amidst a growing amount of raffles
The Capotain is the most unfitting
[editline]8th November 2010[/editline]
Drill hat is most fitting for the respective class
(Named are unfitting)
Scout: Most fit pretty well, maybe Bombing Run
Soldier: Dapper Topper, Kinda Chieftain's (Bit too showy imo)
Pyro: Handyman's Handle, Brain Slug
Demoman: Capotain
Heavy: Hard Counter
Engineer: All fit well
Medic: All fit fairly well
Sniper: Croc slightly
Spy: Mullet, kinda Fez
Also Max Hat and the two towering pillars
Good weapons: Axestinguisher (Almost a direct upgrade though), Flaregun, Degreaser, Fish, Jarate, Buff Banner, Syndey Sleeper (Kinda, I just like it because I can't get a headshot to save my life but in capable hands the Sniper Rifle is infinitely better) Kritzkrieg, KGB (you may disagree but switch to fists and see how much faster they are), Sandvich, L'Etranger, Wrangler, GRU, Gunslinger, Bonk (in some situations), and possibly the Direct Hit and Black Box, can't make up my mind about them. The rest I feel are direct upgrades, underpowered, or just plain stupid/useless/not worth replacing their corresponding weapon.
Scout - Bonk helm, he looks dumb, Tosslecap makes him look badass.
Soldier - Dr. Topper. Complete bullshit
Pyro - Plunger. I know he's insane, but who cares.
Demo - Capotain, Stuntsman
Heavy - Hard Counter
Engineer is good, lucky bastard
Medic is good
Sniper - Croc, Bucket hat
Spy - all cep Fedora and Bowler.
I find all of the polycount hats unfitting personally, not to mention they look so dull... :frown:
except for the fez, shades are always cool.
The most fitting hat... alot, exactly, but I'll name one for each class.
Note: these are not my favorites, but the ones I deem most fitting.
Scout- Batter's Helm
Soldier- Soldier's Stash
Pyro- Glove ( I think it symbolizes Pyro's childlike mannerisms, and his friendship with Engineer )
Demoman- Glengarry Bonnet
Heavy-Ushanka
Engineer- Texas Ten Gallon
Medic- Prussian Picklehaube
Sniper- Trophy Belt
Spy- Fancy Fedora
Funny how most of these are Gen 1 hats.
Hats that dont fit the style:
Scout- Bombing Run ( If anything, Soldier should have gotten this )
Soldier- Dr.'s Dapper Topper
Pyro- All of them seem somewhat fitting, I can't really choose, but probably the Brainslug
Demoman- Carouser's Capotain
Heavy- Cadaver's Cranium ( It doesn't make sense to wear this during the rest of the year... )
Engineer- None really, but if any, Safe n' Sound
Medic- Ze Goggles
Sniper- Snaggletooth ( Yeah, Sniper is Australian, but wearing a crocodile head just doesn't seem right for some reason. )
Spy- Either the Fez or the Mullet
Almost all new hats. I see a pattern here.

Most fitting IMO?
Scout - Tosslecap
Soldier - Drill Sarge
Pyro - Rubber Glove
Demo - Fro
Heavy - Ushanka
Engie - Ten Gallon
Medic - Prickelhaube
Sniper - Trophy belt
Spy - Fancy fedora
Fitting enough to be there from release:
Spy: Fancy Fedora
Soldier: Soldier's Stash
Engineer: Mining Light
Sniper: Trophy belt
Medic: Otyrongialoagsiahdujist's Mirror
Demoman: Glengarry Bonnet
Fitting alternative unlockables:
Engineer: Radigan Brown Texas Ten Gallon
Heavy: Heavy Duty Rag, Ushanka
Pyro: Respectless Glove, Brigade Helmet
Demoman: Stove Pipe
Soldier: Stainless Steel Pot
Spy: Frenchman's Beret
Scout: Bakerboy
Cancerous abominations:
Pyro: Brainslug, Napper's Respite
Scout: Bombing Run, Milkman
Heavy: Umbrella thing
Demoman: Carousel's Captain
Soldier: Kabuto
Spy: Fez
Engineer: Safe'n'Sound, Hatless
Medic: Gatsby
General: Max's Head, Parasite
The Capotain is perfectly fine
WELL I KNOW IT'S SPELLED CAROUSER'S CAPOTAIN
I think Flaregun is weapon that is most balanced unlockable offering a unique playstyle, while also being perfectly fitting the character's personality and stereotype.
Best unlockable weapon in the game, hands down.
The hat that seems to clash the most, either the Dapper Topper or the skull. Neither fit at all, the skull is too serious and too much of a contrast between the soft colors and humor of the game. The Topper, well... it's bad.
The hat that seems to fit the most, probably the Trophy Belt. It's not really that easy to tell apart from the normal one at range, it doesn't change the silhouette at all, and it fits the character.
The most balanced, true side-grade weapon... that's a tough one. I don't think I can pick one. The Huntsman is a good side-grade, as you sacrifice accuracy and hitscan for being more mobile and arguably more useful to the team during a push. Damage, as well, for being able to help the team out more when they go around corners. Hard to cover your team when there's a damned building in the way, and the time you spend moving up could be spent lobbing arrows at that Spy going for your Medic. On the other hand, it's much harder to cover against Snipers and quick moving classes, and your arrow can be reflected by quick or lucky Pyros.
The Kritz is also a pretty good side-grade. You sacrifice the very generally useful 8 seconds of invulnerability for pure damage, which is insanely useful against a group of enemies, but both you and your target can be killed before the end of your charge, leaving you high and dry if there's nobody else around. Up side of that, though, is you get the charge faster, so you don't have spend so long building for your push.
Jarate is a fantastic side-grade, although you won't see me equipping anything other than it due a long standing addiction to using it. You sacrifice actual damage with a short to medium range weapon for utilitarian usage - extinguishing fires, marking Spies, softening up groups of enemies. It's incredibly useful, but it leaves you incredibly open to short and medium range, even when carrying the rifle as your primary.
As far as pure upgrades go, Equalizer and, to some extent, Ubersaw. The only downside to the Equalizer is you can't be healed by Medics, and most Soldiers I see don't seem to care.
Unfitting:
Scout: Milkman
Soldier: Shitty Topper
Pyro: Brainslug
Demoman: Capotain, Raincatcher, Tricorne
Heavy: Hound Dog (Its a good hat but it simply does not fit the Heavy.)
Engineer: None.
Medic: None.
Sniper: None.
Spy: Fez.
Engineer: Safe'n'Sound, Hatless
I disagree with the Safe'n'Sound. They're supposed to be construction headphones, which fits the Engineer pretty well.
I absolutely hate the grenadier's cap, nuff said...
I find most all of the hats to atleast be decent. There is only 3 I really don't like: The Noble Assessment,The Towering Pillar, and the Dapper Topper
The Pillars just feel like a joke that went way too far and the Idea of wearing a hat on a hat is a little too cartoony, even by TF2 standards. The Dapper Topper would have been fine with the old texture but giving it the cat in the hat stripes was just stupid.
Cancerous abominations:
Pyro: Brainslug
I win
Engineer: Safe'n'Sound
Medic: Gatsby
uh how are these "Cancerous abominations"
Safe n Sound fits engineer perfectly and it's a fairly simple, nice looking hat. Gatsby might not be the best hat ever but it also fits and has a nice simplicity to it.
Pretty much all fit except the Dapper and the two Towers.

Putting that hat in TF2 was like using a pink marker to paint a big penis on the Mona Lisa.
I disagree with the Safe'n'Sound. They're supposed to be construction headphones, which fits the Engineer pretty well.
The headphones themselves are good, I would have enjoyed them if the were worn on top or under his helmet. However I think hatless Engineer looks plain wrong, and the Safe'n'Sound is to me no more than an ugly bald head with headphones.
The Halloween skull really doesn't fit at all. The Pumpkin doesn't fit well, but at least that's a Halloween only hat.
And here we go again....
What about the Juju, how does that fit any better than the skull?
What about the Juju, how does that fit any better than the skull?
Good point. Maybe Valve like Disney movies.
I think most hats fit, except for unusuals and painted hats.
