Making something for Steam Workshop - I'm a Noob at it and need help.

Hey guys, I have decided to try my luck at making something for tf2. It's called The Screwstabber (or Screwpricker). Anyway, I just got done making the geometry with Wings3D. I am working on the UV map that it gave to me. Im just editing it in Paint.net and I save it, then refresh the image in Wings, and the texture is there. I have a few questions:
I know that some stock tf2 weapons (and most already on the workshop) have different skins or models I think depending on what team you are on. You know, like the Medigun is Red if your on Red and Blue if your on Blu. I want to have that for the Screwstabber. But my question is, do I need to make 2 different textures or 2 different models?
Also, I found the valve developer stuff hard to understand. Like the other files you need and the skeletons, binding it to a joint, and other stuff I still have to do. I'm a total noob at this. It's my first thing ive ever made to be used publicly by the source engine. (Aside from a few maps i've made). I've never done any kind of 3D Modeling. If someone could direct me to a very simple-to-follow tutorial, I would love you forever (a very long time) and I will always be your friend. Thanks guys!
You should post in the Emporium, they can help you out.
