How to disable public chat?

It is like the fucking barren chat, I can't take it anymore. How do I disable it? If I click on filters ingame and untick Public Chat it doesn't do anything. Same with other things listed there.

Doesn't work on my Desktop PC nor my Macbook Pro. What am I doing wrong?

You can disable voice chat but not text chat. Which are you trying to get rid of?

Text chat. At least the public one because its most of the time people insulting each other or calling each other hackers. Sometimes I would just like to ignore it.

The filter box looked like you could set "Teamchat only" or "server messages only" etc. If thats not its function, what is?

The chat filters don't do shit and it's pretty annoying, hud_saytexttime is your only option. Unless someone wrote a client plugin that turns off those annoying hlstats messages or the other retarded shit that puts messages in the center of your screen.

You can already do that. Just dick around in the hlstatsx menus until you find it.

I find it distracting either way, I only need voice chat most of the times. I would have kept team chat if the filters were working, but they are not.
