I havent played TF2 for about 2 years. I started playing 20minutes ago and everybody got different items giving different bonuses, how do I get them? Do I hafto pay real money or something? Thanks
No. Just play for an hour and you'll start getting those items.
Some of them are very upgrade-able compared to the vanilla weapons, but most of them are situational as well.
Get achievements, you'll get most of the items you'll need.
Milestone achievements give you items.
You also get them over time.
you just have to play for a bit, about 15-75 minutes, you'll get one or two.
then you can press m to go to the menu to equip them for the class you're playing as. Some items are only available to single classes, though.

The only items available to two (or more) classes are the Pain Train and some hats.
Thanks for the tips :) I was playing for another 10 minutes and I unlocked the Sword for Demoman. Though I play Medic it was fun to unlock something :D

Edit: Also why rate dumb? When I last played there were no items or inventory.

It's common knowledge these days.
TF2 Wiki has lots of articles on all the items.
it's not really common knowledge for you when you haven't played since release.
that said you could still use common sense to understand what's going on

Smash, I think it's great how you have a content filled Wiki with lots of info, but..
Can you go a post without mentioning it? :v:

Why yes I can.
This seemed like a time to tell a user, who didn't know much about the game, about the wiki which aims to educate users who don't know much about the game.
Not really that easy to get by intuition. Don't you guys remember how confused we all were when the sniper/spy update hit?

No. I wasn't confused and I don't remember anyone else being confused...

OH, wait. The random drop system. Yeah, that was confusing.

Don't forget the pop-ups! I love those, and they make my wiki-browsing experience even greater!
On-topic: Here is every single item. http://www.tf2items.com/allitems.php

Not when last time you played the game was merely competitive vanilla playing with no crazy shit as finding weapons or unlockables, when hats didn't exist and you only played to win, those were the good days!

Amen I feel sentimental but god damnit that was the best time of TF2, when it was merely competition, not like now when your character is barbie and she can be as cute as she wants with her Texas Slim Dome Shine.

I've been playing since beta and I love the new stuff. Customizing things is why I love PC gaming.
