Anyone care to explain what it does,by now i know it's related to custom cfgs and the textures.
-fuckin image-
No wonder I was lagging earlier.
:saddowns:

It controls texture compression. The higher the value, the more the game compresses textures, making them appear blurry and low-res. The lower the value, the more uncompressed textures were, with -10 being the maximum. At -10, textures were completely uncompressed, making all the textures look sharp and very detailed.
This update makes me sad.

BRB reporting bug so they add an option for Ultra High just for you ppl with gtx2xx

Eh, not quite. What it controls is mipmapping. Basically, when you make a VTF texture, it creates both the original texture and several lower-resolution versions of the texture. The lower your mat_picmip number, the higher the texture resolution. At -10, you're using the highest-resolution mipmap available (though most textures stop noticeably gaining resolution at around -4 or so). However, the game still uses a system where textures on surfaces further away use lower-resolution mipmaps for performance purposes. You can turn this off (mat_mipmaptextures 0) but you lose a ton of performance with practically no visual gain.

Thanks, and well it's not bad for me because my PC sucks hard, but for players that can run TF2 on ultra high it sucks.
Oh,thanks too Ukuku now i see the difference(and i tought i was really minimal).

Argh! How could I not know about this! And now it's gone. :frown:
Also, it really only goes to -10 if sv_cheats is set to 1, believe it or not. If sv_cheats is 0, mat_picmip -10 and -2 are identical.
This better be a mistake from valve's side

Not true. -2 and -10 are identical in the vast majority of cases because most textures aren't high enough resolution for it to make a difference, but sv_cheats has nothing to do with it.
Don't worry guys, Valve will add "ultra high"
I suppose it's because mac doesn't support that detail.
