http://steamcommunity.com/groups/GMGhatraffle/ ... ;( With my Steam account, Cogniscente, I recently was doing some hat raffles in Team Fortress 2 (I had people donate scrap metal and I crafted it together and raffled the hat away, everyone agreed to stuff, was all legitimate) At one point, I posted an announcement in the Steam group (GMGhatraffles) that I would offer five spots in any future raffles I did (which was true) for a Fez hat. A guy offered a hat, and I took the offer. However, due to personal issues, I could not personally do any more raffles, but handed control over raffles to my friend Cybermatt. He agreed to do occasional raffles. I agreed to keep giving that guy five slots in raffles. The fellow who offered the Fez contacted me and said that he didn't like this, and I told him that I had offered the slots in the raffles in exchange for the hat, and that me holding constant raffles was not part of the deal. I also told him Cybermatt would be doing more raffles (which I would have been glad to donate him 5 slots in) However, apparently he was displeased with this and told me to give him the hat back. I disagreed, because I did not feel it was part of the previous deal. Apparently, my account has been disabled over this. I sent a ticket saying I'll offer return of the hat. I hope account disablements are not final, because there was around $170 dollars of games on my account. That's a hefty fine for a debacle over a Fez hat. I don't know - maybe I shouldn't have asked for a hat in the first place, but I didn't even want it for myself. I was going to raffle it. Maybe I shouldn't have been a prick and just given the guy back the hat.
I think we can all agree that you're scammer and you deserve to get your account deactivated.
Here, have a heart
they're STILL disabling whole accounts over this? way to say "that was just the first 10 accounts, we'll just ban others from the item system" but yeah, considering you lose all your games that way, it's more profitable for Valve to make you buy everything again sigh
Here you go [editline]17th October 2010[/editline]
Here, have a heart
Thanks. ;(
Wow... just wow. Disabling and entire account over one hat? I thought they said only peoples who had scammed A LOT of peoples would get this! What the fuck VALVe?!
Just like in grade 1 huh? Oh, suddenly I want my pikachu back after I traded it...
That suuucks. It's entirely uncalled for, especially if you were still holding up your end of the deal.
I don't think there was really time for an in-depth investigation, either, because it was disabled within a few hours of the guy complaining to me.
What is hilarious I actually got scammed from my chieftain 5 days ago, guy promised me CS. Thought it was worth the risk, it was a dupe after all. He blocked me then. I reported him 5 days ago, still no response.
Also, for those who want to know, if you try to join a game while logged into a disabled account (ie, if you're still logged in while it is disabled) you get the message "Connection to VAC servers cannot be made!" Made me thought I'd had a false positive from VAC - or something. Or my router licked balls.
So being reported for scamming gets you a worse punishment than hacking and getting VACd? This is like the salem witch trials
I'm actually starting to feel a bit paranoid, because I traded so many people with deals that were insane, that one person could report me. Even tho we both agreed, Valve may suspect that I scammed him.
I'll update you guys if they decide to reverse the disablement, some guy with a ton of rep on SUF told me there's been a guy who had his enabled again.
Best of luck, it's probably just a temporary suspension.
I traded 1 scrap, one targe, engineer shotgun, and something else that was another weapon for a nametag. Worth it, but now I'm slightly paranoid.
Wow this system could be abused easily. Give a person you hate a hat and report him. (I might be wrong though if they save chatlogs)
I traded 1 scrap, one targe, engineer shotgun, and something else that was another weapon for a nametag. I'm thinking about writing a stern letter to Valve about this.
owned scammer!!! (User was banned for this post ("Why reply?" - Greeman))

OH. And Valve needs to get their priorities straight. If you use regular old guys to monitor "Scams" it WILL be biased to whomever comes off more charming in the letter they sent in. Its a flawed and brutish system.
Will my account be disabled for farming?
Smashman, go play with Robin and throw jarate on him Name the jarate "This is for Xolo!"
I traded 1 scrap, one targe, engineer shotgun, and something else that was another weapon for a nametag. Worth it, but now I'm slightly paranoid.
I traded a natasha for a hatless, i wouldn't be paranoid, I'm not disabled.
Wow Valve what the fuck are you doing
Yep, when you add real money into the equation I guess it gets serious to valve
I was gonna contact this Valve guy I used to play 2fort with but realized I don't have my account any more
I am not cool with this.
I miss that account already. I made that big thread on SPUF "How to run TF2 on shitty computers" and people on Steam sent me new hardware. So many memories ;( sadface
