Bassically if you didnt already know, Vista Automatically searchs for wireless networks every few minuets this is what might cause you to get the 3-4 second lag spikes on a server. There is a tool on the Internet called Vista-Aint-Lag [VAL]. It stops Vista Automatically Looking for Wireless Networks Thus stopping the Stupid Lag Spikes people are getting. The download link is here: http://vista-anti-lag.software.informer.com/ So yeah, Happy "Less lag spike" gaming Instructions on use: Download [ofc] Once downloaded Run the program. A window will come up press "Activate" the icon in the bottom right [where the time is] should now say "VAL is now Active" and in the window it should also be green and say "Active" If you would like it to automatically minimize and auto activate, goto extras/options and check the remaining box.
So... I click on the download, and it sends me to some German site which has nothing to do with it. Wait, scratch that. Didn't see the "Download" bar XD
Does this do anything on Windows 7?
no it won't do anything on win 7 i guess note that some drivers are not compatible, in that case you have to reinstall them, to different drivers, linksys drivers are known for these problem, for example, replace them with ralink drivers. then it should work. or at least it does with "WLAN optimizer"

I'll Post some instructions
Where are the instructions may I ask?
Did you guys even look? http://www.codecase.de/en/software/downloads/file/19-vista-anti-lag-v1-1-1
I remember finding out about this right after I switched to cable internet.
Where are the instructions may I ask?
I rated you Bad reading because You obviosly didnt read the OP
Yes, but windows 7 is windows vista with a few patches, that's why they asked.
You, sir, are grievously misinformed.
I rated you Bad reading because You obviosly didnt read the OP
And you obviously can't proofread. I wasn't aware it was called vista ain't lag.
I rated you Bad reading because You obviosly didnt read the OP
The whole point of ratings is so you don't have to post and fill this thread with this^
I remember finding out about this right after I switched to cable internet.
Ratings are handy. I now know I didn't in fact switch to cable internet and I don't know about this lag.
This thing got patched waaaaaaaay back. OP's post is extremely dated, Vista users won't have to worry about this anymore.
This thing got patched waaaaaaaay back. OP's post is extremely dated, Vista users won't have to worry about this anymore.
i'm not sure about that, somebody asked me how i fixed it a few days ago since he had the same problem as i had
i'm not sure about that, somebody asked me how i fixed it a few days ago since he had the same problem as i had
What version of Vista are you using basic, home premium, ultimate?
This didn't ever work for me. Just pissed me off 80% of the time.
I call warez
I call stupidity.
What version of Vista are you using basic, home premium, ultimate?
home premium
Remember, this is for ping SPIKES at regular intervals. This won't magically fix your bad connection. I made a long post about this on the Steam forums. I wrote this specifically for Linksys wireless users, but it includes some things for everyone. Do the ping test at the beginning to see if you have the problem. If Vista Anti Lag did nothing for ping SPIKES, then this post might help you. Also, I included .bat files, which I prefer to running a separate program (Vista Anti-Lag).
I finally noticed these spikes were at regular intervals - every 60 seconds I would get lag in TF2. This is because the default Vista network settings automatically search for other networks every 60 seconds or so. To see if you have this unnecessary problem, go to start>run, type cmd, hit enter. Type the following, replacing XXX with a reliable IP to ping repeatedly, such as your router's: ping -t xxx I'm on a Linksys router, so I use: ping -t 192.168.1.1 Now watch this for at least 60 seconds. If you see the occasional ping that is MUCH HIGHER than the others, then you have the problem!! This had a HUGEEEEE impact on my TF2 gaming - I would tend to get a lag spike in many important situations, such as while Ubered! The quick solution is to tell Vista to not look for new networks. The problem is that you can't do this unless you are on XP wireless drivers for some reason! The following explains how to uninstall Linksys WMP54G Vista drivers and install good XP ones. ---IF YOU ALREADY are running on XP network drivers with whatever wireless card you use, then skip straight to the ******** section! Or if you understand how to revert back to XP drivers by yourself, do that, and go to the ********* section. ____________________________ Here is my solution for those using VISTA and a LINKSYS WMP54G. First, grab the Linksys WMP54G XP drivers from linksys.com. Yes, the XP drivers, not the Vista ones. The card is based on Ralink technology - grab the Ralink Vista RT61 drivers from http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Hom...t/Windows.html (search the page for RT61 to find the one you have to get) Now you have to uninstall your current Linksys drivers. -Go to device manager (in control panel), right click your Linksys card, choose to uninstall, and check the box to delete all software or whatever -Go to Control Panel, Programs and uninstall any Linksys entry. -Go to C:\Program Files\ and delete any Linksys folders (OTHERWISE THEY WILL AUTO-REINSTALL) Reboot (just in case. Might stick at the reboot screen for a long time, just let it do its thing.) When Windows loads, if it asks you to search for drivers, tell it to ask later. Install the Ralink drivers by running the EXE you downloaded. Once installed, run the Linksys self-extracting EXE you downloaded. When finished installing, reboot Windows again, just in case. Again, it might stick at the reboot screen for a long time, LET IT. Upon Windows loading, it should ask you for drivers again. This time, point it to the Linksys drivers, specifically (if you extracted them to the default location) C:\Linksys Drivers\WMP54Gv4.1_20051117\Drivers\WMP54Gv4.1 (this may look different depending on what version WMP54G you have. Make sure you use the right version!) You should now be set up for internet! Double click the new Ralink icon in your system tray, go to the Network tab, choose a network, choose Add to Profile and create a profile, then go to the Profile section, choose that profile and hit Activate. If this doesn't give you internet, reboot and try again. You should still be getting lag spikes. ************* Now download Vista Anti Lag. http://www.codecase.de/index.php/downloads Install it. Run it. In Vista Anti Lag, click the Activate button. NOW YOU SHOULD NO LONGER GET LAG SPIKES DUE TO VISTA!!! To check: Figure out an IP that is consistant, such as your ROUTER'S IP (for a linksys router this is 192.168.1.1 generally) Go to Start, Run, type cmd, press enter Type the following and press enter (where xxx is the IP you have chosen) ping -t xxx WATCH THIS LIST FOR AT LEAST 60 SECONDS!! You should constantly see good pings. If you see a sudden one with a really high number (like triple digits), your problems are still there. If not, all is fixed! ______ Alternative program to Vista Anti Lag, called WLANOptimizer: http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanop.../downloads.php ______ COMMAND PROMPT ALTERNATIVE to Vista Anti Lag / WLANOptimizer (Still only works if on XP drivers!): http://chris-tech-help.blogspot.com/...-in-vista.html These BATCH FILES do the same thing that the above link tells you to do. Again, DISABLE autoconfig when gaming. ENABLE it after. I personally prefer using these batch files, because I try to have as few unnecessary programs running as possible. http://chrislohr.net/uploader/files/1/Enabled.bat http://chrislohr.net/uploader/files/1/Disabled.bat ________ SIMPLE ALTERNATIVE to EVERYTHING above: Use a wired connection, see if that fixes things.
Well, I last played TF2 when I had XP on my desktop, and I haven't played it on Vista yet, but it did the same thing.
