So Daimao and I made contact to VALVe about the whole hat thing, and he told us the community items are special items given to VALVe's favourite community contributors (he told us we'd get them too).
That's really nice and possibly dick-ish to tell you but the important thing is that they haven't decided what these special items should do yet, and he asked us if we had any ideas. So I'd like to ask what Facepunch thinks of it and what you'd all agree upon is not game-breaking, yet unique and possibly entertaining.

Jarate with 100% chance of crits and 250% damage
I assume it's a weapon with a new model, created by the person who's receiving the community weapon.
Have it labeled as blablabla's Scattergun/etc and whatever level you want. Thats the only thing i can think of to add without it being overpowered.
I'd give them for free
Sanvich with a 100% crit rate on ignited players and 20 seconds of crits after killing with it.
A rocket launcher that fires hats
Bonk with 100% criticals from behind.
Unique, 1 of a kind hats.
Special weapons that aren't overpowered, but are humorous. Melee weapons come to mind. For instance, replace the Pyro with an Ostrich, Red Faction: Guerrilla style.
Special class icons, they could glitter or something.

I had an idea when I was out walking right now.
The ubersaw, but when rightclicked, jams the needle into his neck for selfheal(like fully healed or atleast more than the kritzkrieg has) at the cost of his uber, or as a taunt.

Ability to throw hats.
You should ask to get heavy gloves with name of Facepunch and FP logo!
Daimao should get a medic hat that makes the medic have a laughing, happy face all the time.
And Royzo a skull hat for everyone.
Well, In my opinion all changes should purely be based on appearance, not on function.
A custom model for a weapon of choice that other players can see seems fitting. Or possibly hats.

I like these, but I'm not sure how much of them they're giving away, because I'm not sure VALVe would include 20 custom items. Also, not every contributor is a modeler.

A gun that gives you constant uber when you have it out but deals no damage.

I think the community weapons should be
1: Unique hats
2: Cosmetic weapons
3: Unique weapon variations, like blutsauger that increases passive regen rate but does not heal on hits.
4: Combination of 2 and 3

I'm sure Valve would hook a contributor up with a model if they requested one.
Hopefully someone thinks something creative up instead of Gold Plated weapons or something silly like that.
