This problem has been solved, if you somehow got into this problem and need a fix, Stop trying to install SRCDS with terminal (seriously, who does this besides me?) Either SSH into your server and run the Linux Installation from the SSH command line or get rid of your desktop stuff! So I rented an unmanaged VDS from Nuclear Fallout Servers because I had experience in home hosting on a shitty connection... I updated Ubuntu to the latest version and installed desktop because command line is way too unfamiliar for me. Fast forward a bit and im using the terminal to download Team Fortress content on SRCDS when suddenly 0:09 Checking/Installing 'Team Fortress 2 Content' version 379 0:09 [myinternalIP] Reusing Connection 0:09 [myinternalIP] Sending Login Message.... 0:21 0.14% downloading /path/map.bsp 0:21 [myinternalIP] Disconnecting Failed to write *slightly fluctuating number* bytes in ReadFileFromServer And then it closes and sends me back into console. Any help? EDIT: After simply retrying the command I get the message stating "removing stale semaphore" (paraphrased), then something about updating depots before finally getting thrown off without the message "CMallocedBlock(): Malloc Failed" From a little google this sounds like a memory problem, could it be the machine and not actually me being a dumbass? (I did a quick google search and found nothing on this exact error message, if there was try not to be an asshole and send me a link without any other text, thanks)
Why are you installing it via terminal?
As I said command line OS is alien to me, and the only installation guide for Linux SRCDS is using a command line.
I'm a bit confused. Why don't you just install steam? Also I recommend upgrading from 12.40 LTS to 12.10.
I am beyond dazed right now, what do you mean by install steam?
Here is the steam group, and you can download the .deb here. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding you. I think this is what you want.
