It looks to have some nice scrollwork on it. I'm going to assume that since this is the engie, he did it himself.

It's centered to the left of the shotgun, instead of directly above or two the right, which is how it would need to be centered because of the way he's holding it. It looks like some kind of canister or holding device.

I bet it's used to identify where robots should go, that the engie created, via laser/transmitter. See the antenna?

Guys I just watched the trailer again and I [B]think[/B] engi's new shotgun might be in it. I'm not sure because it's just SO DAMN SUBTLE.

It's probably a laser pointer/sight that will be able to direct sentries at the cost of ranged fighting and/or stopping power of the gun itself.
