options->mouse->use raw input I'm not sure what it does, but whenever I mention it in a server I get at least 5 responses saying "omg they added that finally :D?" and a few more who ask wtf I'm on about. So yea, just mentioning it, regardless of there possibly being other threads about this. Apparently it's a quite anticipated option. Source uses a window for the cursor.
It doesn't move the cursor back to the middle each time it hits the edge, it moves the cursor back to the middle each frame. It uses the distance the mouse has travelled from the last frame and moves your view accordingly.
using raw input bypasses the window and uses data directly from the mouse. v:v:v
What the heck does it do?
- Added support for raw mouse input. Raw input reads directly from the mouse, bypassing Windows control panel mouse settings. This addresses issues with high DPI mice, and provides for a more reliable controller experience at various resolutions.
From a CSS beta patch. EDIT: :ninja:
It doesn't move the cursor back to the middle each time it hits the edge, it moves the cursor back to the middle each frame. It uses the distance the mouse has travelled from the last frame and moves your view accordingly. [editline]20th November 2010[/editline] And I'm pretty sure having raw input, among other things, gives you a higher polling rate resulting in less movements done more frequently resulting in what appears to be smoother movement. I could be wrong though. [editline]20th November 2010[/editline] I'm pretty sure also, because it's reading raw input from the mouse, the sensitivity will always be the exact same for everyone whereas before, 5.0 could be a different sensitivity to someone else with 5.0 because of the windows mouse sensitivity adjusting it before the game picks up input.

Have they fixed the cursor leaving the window in windowed mode yet Goddamn that pisses me off at the peak of a rocket jump and then I get yelled at by my team for DUDE WTF WHY U GO AFK
I've never seen this before. I usually change my sensitivity using console commands.
Have they fixed the cursor leaving the window in windowed mode yet Goddamn that pisses me off at the peak of a rocket jump and then I get yelled at by my team for DUDE WTF WHY U GO AFK
Oh God, I hate that so much. I'll hear a Spy uncloak behind me, WHIP AROUND TO FIRE A ROCKET IN HIS FACE...and stand perfectly still. By the time I regain my wits, he's already slipped around behind me again and taken me out. :saddowns:
My mouse movement feels way more smooth now!
Dunno what it does but im activating it. Maybe it gives me 3 aimboots.
Now people with high DPI mice have an unfair advantage. :frown: Pfft you and your dumbs, learn to take a joke.
Now people with high DPI mice have an unfair advantage. :frown:
so do the people with high FOV
so do the people with high FOV
:what:
I have high FOV. It gives me a huge advantage.
I haven't noticed much difference.
Now people with high DPI mice have an unfair advantage. :frown:
and people with high fps have unfair advantage against people with low fps :frown:
the man with low fps was sad until he met a man with high ping
and people with high fps have unfair advantage against people with low fps :frown:
And people with better Internet connections have a advantage over people with bad ones :frown:
I'm pretty sure also, because it's reading raw input from the mouse, the sensitivity will always be the exact same for everyone whereas before, 5.0 could be a different sensitivity to someone else with 5.0 because of the windows mouse sensitivity adjusting it before the game picks up input.
I think that DPI still plays a factor here, so it's still different. And this is an option everyone should enable. It gives a bit faster and and more responsive aiming, and eliminates all acceleration. With acceleration on you can't really get used to your sensitivity, because it's constantly changing i.e you can't decide how many cms you have to move your mouse to do a 180, but with raw input checked it will always be for example 20 cms for a 180 no matter how fast or slow you move your mouse. Also if you experience low fps and have this option on, your mouse won't feel sluggish or aim "behind" or whatever.
Have they fixed the cursor leaving the window in windowed mode yet
I'm pretty sure enabling it will fix this.
Looks like this option gets rid of that annoying mouse lag caused by vsync.

thanks, thanks, thanks! Now I can play on high DPI with no problems!
People with better TF2 skills have an unfair advantage over unskilled players! ...wait.
People with mouse and keyboard have an unfair advantage over people with no mouse and keyboard!
Now I can play at 4000DPI without it being a bitch.
My mouse won't let me move the camera with it on.
People with money to buy items from the Mann Co Store have an unfair advantage over the poor and Irish.
