By this I mean skins, HUDs, etc.
I don't like them very much, not because they're poorly made, but because so many servers block them.
What's your opinion?
SV_pure is ass.
http://kinsie.helloiaminter.net/frankenhud/ Never seen that get blocked by any site and it looks beautiful
I wish there was no sv_pure.
I don't download that many custom skins and things, because a lot of the things in the game I believe look fine as they are.
However there are a lot of very good fixes to weapons such as fixing fucked up animations, lack of bullet holes, bugged textures and shit... however downloading them cripples me a lot on normal servers as they'll often be completely invisible.
So currently I mostly just download replacements for things I dislike, mainly cosmetic items.
Because even if I don't get to see their good looking model replacements, at least I don't have to see them at all on normal servers.
I like clientside mods because I can disable unusual hat effects

Huds can't get disabled as they're not Particle Effects/Models.

Also, some of the skins people produce is great but yet again, sv_pure destroys all that. I'd rather see them as actual content mind.
I like them and use them. I don't know why, but I think it makes it more interresting with some new models/skins then the same ones all the time.

sv_pure blocks skins too. Which in a way, a HUD is technically a skin. But as it isn't a replacement to the blacklisted folders (materials/models, materials/walls, etc.) it does not matter.
I don't mind them, I only use the ones designed to fix things valve won't, like the Demoman Pipebomb launcher and a few fixes to the Ubercharge materials and such. Nothing over the top so it doesn't break the game theme.
There are so many shit skins out there though that do break the theme, they are just horrible.
Valve needs to disable ignorez entirely. There would literally be no need for sv_pure anymore if they did.
I know there's also the issue of custom sounds, but the actual loudness of each sound is controlled by scripts that override the client version with the server's, so the most you can do is just change sounds into more unique and noticeable ones; you can't really make uncloaking or footsteps actually any louder.
sv_pure wouldn't be so bad if fucking Valve would let me filter the shit out of my searches.

This, too. It's probably not included in the tags since it's technically an anti-cheat mechanism, so why would they let cheaters hone in on cheatable servers, but I think it's probably safe to say the amount of custom skin users greatly outnumbers the amount of cheaters at this point...custom content is what drives TF2 these days, especially with the promise of possibly getting your content in-game some day.
Being able to use custom content in TF2 is an important feature now. They should let us find servers compatible with our skins.

the problem with disabling $ignorez is that it is used. HUD elements tend to use it mainly.

Best Particle Ever
The moment Valve would allow filter sv_pure servers those few servers would get polluted by cheaters. I know what TF2 community is capable of. And then they would remove sv_pure 0 completely.
so why would they let cheaters hone in on cheatable servers
Last time I checked, you can filter by VAC enabled or not.
I use various fixes such as better uber textures and unmipmapped viewmodel hand textures. Plus a few not completely style breaking things I made like a removed bandolier on the Heavy.
They just need to make it so ignorez is ignored unless specified by them in a given texture. Then sv_pure is pretty much pointless. Or make it so sv_pure 2 servers load the correct default content when you go on a server with it on.
Then again, if Valve just fixed the problems with the game's aesthetics like the poor quality textures here and there and bullet holes missing there wouldn't be much of a need for custom fixes at all.

This is true.
No excuses now. :v:
Things I have installed:
Improved HUD Icons
Sgt. Plushie Equalizer Replacement
TF2 Logo Health Display
Spinning Pyro's Beanie
So I quite like clientside mods.
I don't use skins because I like how the game looks
I want to use some fixes (like the ambassador fix from the emporium) but sv_pure fucks everything
I hate sv_pure because I can't use any of the cool models that people make. I just got fed up when servers would make my weapons invisible.
The only thing I have as of right now is a skin for the sniper rifle called the skullbuster
looks great and I love it.

Unless they're helpful then there's often no point in getting them since nobody else can see it.
I use them, though I'm kinda picky in what I download. I used to have a fair number of mods, but now all I've got is AyesDyef's female Scout, the improved kill icons and the Lucky Star HUD/Spy masks.
Say what you will about my choice of HUD, I've actually grown to really like it.
SV_Pure would be alright..
If it actually replaced your models and sounds with the originals, instead of leaving you with no models, checkered textures, static and random shit everywhere. It would be good if it didn't break all of your mods in the OTHER servers, too.
And why does it feel the urge to replace killicons? I want to see if there's a spy backstabbing my team when I'm pyro!

aww yeah
I was on a trading server once, only to find out that there was a spam filter. Now first off, this would be a bad idea, because people are advertising their shit.
But your limited to 2 posts per minute.

Because everything has to be about other people :downs:
I love them, I have loads of them.
Just as DatWut said, I have loads of them and love them.
I've only ever used them once on a game but I can see why people like them, I might actually go grab that equalizer replacement because that thing looks bad ass!
