So yeah hi welcome to the thread for talking about the beta, it's updates and balance changes!
Here's a history of the beta so far:
December 2, 2010 - The first blog post goes up announcing the beta's release and listing its goals. Included items are three different Natascha variants, a 5cp version of cp_gorge, a slightly modification of cp_granary and other misc changes.
December 3, 2010 - cp_5gorge's broken environment maps are fixed and the map is added to the mapcycle.txt
December 8, 2010 - Crafting disabled, several cp_5gorge balance changes, Natascha variant 1 and 2 have their stats changed slightly and the overall stun effect was reduced by 20%, a couple of Granary changes.
2 megathreads oh my.
Too late...
Duncanthread is best thread
Hey Daimao since we have two threads can you lock one of them? I don't care which but it should probably be the other guy's since mine isn't just a giant block of copypasted text (and I plan on keeping it updated and am not just making it for moderator favour)
Okay.
Edit:
But remove the rule thing from the OP, okay?
Okay now on to the conversations.
Anyone else getting achievements at random times?
I got the Iron Curtain achievement by being backstabbed at full health.
Cheers Dai. Now I gotta make some room for the beta.
I played cp_5gorge today but I got lost several times since I was so used to the regular Gorge. I kept thinking the center control point was RED's spawn. :v:
CP_5Gorge is terrible. Too large, too sniper friendly, too difficult to get back points.
It needs some serious reworking to make it good.
Yeah, I don't think just mirroring the map really leads to good design. I'll wait until I've played it myself to judge though.
Is the Heavy supposed to have no hands when taunting with the Sandvich, and with the G.R.U. equipped?

dunno.. i like it

It should have been expanded to be a 3 cp attack and defend map instead of a 5 cp map.
It should have been left the way it was.
Dunno what to make of 5cp gorge yet, played it with inexperienced players and run ravage un opposed and it seemed easy.
But knowing what normal gorge is like it can see it becoming a sniper fest which makes maps like turbine and fast lane shit, needs a lot of cover and less open space, maybe making the roof accessible but with restrictions could work too.
If you guys post bugs when you encounter them, along with any steps to reproduce them, I could take a shot at compiling them into one giant list and shooting it off to Robin at some point. Good idea?
*Shameless plug ahead*
As we know Valve will most likely drag its feet and take its sweet time making a new version of 5gorge so lest take the opportunity to make this map how it "should" be.

No this is not going to be yet another crappy remake. The real meaning behind this map is to test possible solutions and report back to Valve with some solid evidence that they work.
So if you got any suggestions for 5gorge send them my way.
So I tried saharan spy.
*use dead ringer*
*uncloak behind enemy*

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Is it just me or is scout slower? I only played it for a bit yesterday and I'm using a new mouse so things feel different, but I could've sworn scout was a lot slower than he normally is.
I didn't notice that but you're not the first I've heard say it.
I love the beta. I never realized how much fun was sucked out of the game by hats, crafting, item drops, and trading.
The weapon changes haven't affected me much. But I love how everyone has the same items so it's a completely level playing field. No more raging every time I'm killed by a Saharan spy!

Fucking bam. Just the impression the beta has given me.
There are only two Aussie servers, and there are always laggy Americans in them.
I do not approve.

There are two I've found, one is always empty.

I freaking love Gorge. In fact, most of you might notice a lot of my pics are from Gorge. I played Gorge 5cp tonight, and man, I loved it.
Its nice not having to be cooped up in spawn when attacking, and since its Mirrored it isn't exactly one sided. Gorge has a LOT of unfair ledges that an Engineer can get to and pretty much lock the entire map down for the offense.
I also like how it doesn't take fifty years to capture the first point. I mean the one on the bridge.
Oh, while I'm on the subject of the beta, which Natascha variant has slowdown scaling?
Oh, while I'm on the subject of the beta, which Natascha variant has slowdown scaling?
None. Which I absolutely hate.
I still think the ultimate Natascha should be less slowdown over distance.

I reckon so, because i've already encounted a few that i haven't seen been mentioned on SPUF.
