For every objective you get, you get a chance to win the top five games on your steam wishlist.
Bounty Hat for Five Objectives
Treasure Hat for Fifteen Objectives
Hat of undeniable wealth and respect for 28 Objectives
oh god free hats gogogogo
No wait you have to buy some games for most objectives.
False alarm.

This could be fun. :buddy:
Just when I thought I could get every event-hat. :smith:

Didn't see a thread.
Poker night is 3 bucks!
Oh god why did I have to waste all my money!?
oh god free hats gogogogo
Free? One of the games you'd need right now costs $30 if you were crazy enough to be in it just for the hats.
... How much you wanna bet that these things are just going to be the Tricorne with varying amounts of treasure on them, like what that yellow guy to the right is sporting?

Oh yeah forgot to edit this in
/sarcasm
This seems somewhat... manipulative. They're using a combination of obscure, low-cost games (which you are more likely to not own and to purchase) and a series of certain (in that you are guaranteed them) material rewards to entrap participants. I am hoping that the challenges at least involve good games, that would be the only thing differentiating this from some sort of spam mail.
Anyhow, you know that Steam is going to earn a net profit off of this event.

Assuming one objective each set is not game related, you could get the Bounty hat, and assuming you own three of the games that are included in the objectives, you'd get the treasure hat.
I'm not interested in the slightest until I see these hats. Even then I'm most likely not going to waste money on games I'll play once to get a hat from.

Valve is racking in so much dosh from TF2 now, what with the bloody hat craze.
I might take advantage of these sales. Is RUSE any good?
You actually need to achieve fifteen objectives for the treasure hat, not ten.
theyll probably need to be fixed by the emporium some how
I don't know about you guys but I'll be buying all the games under $10 involved in this "treasure hunt".
theyll probably need to be fixed by the emporium some how
Erased? :v:
Why would they do this over finals week, though?
THIS JUST IN: Valve wants the masses to fail everything forever :v:
Long gone are the days when Valve seemed like a generous company.
Valve is only doing this because of the communities' insatiable lust for virtual items.
Valve is only doing this because of the communities' insatiable lust for virtual items.
Which is exactly the point of being predatory.
It's a simple and amazing business model that gets results - Farmville?. It's less wonderful on the other end.
Well Valve has been releasing free updates for this game for how long? It's perfectly natural for them to try and score some money here.
Yeah that excuse is not valid anymore really
Why?
[editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
Considering this is completely optional and cosmetic I'd like to know how it affects anybody really.
[editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
Sure, many people care about TF2 hats, but it's not like having one or not will change anything.
[editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
Plus, all the objective games are on sale.
[editline]6th December 2010[/editline]
And at least one objective doesn't require to own a game to complete. I assume this will be the same for every set.
How the hell does a pirate themed event make ANY sense during Christmas?
Yargh!
Give us your christmas booty or ye shall walk the plank!
So.... Buying games and trying to do certain things in them just for a chance to win more games, or a guaranteed shot at TF2 hats..
No thanks.

In the Southern Hemisphere there's no snow. Are you racist? :colbert:
I think you are all missing the actual point of this event
100 FUCKING STEAM GAMES OF YOUR CHOICE
