Anytime I want to join a server. Server is not responding. How about lets refresh my favorites? No internet games responded to the query. Refresh full server list? Same. Connect ip:port, client timed out. All the fucking time I get this, and it's been happening for a while. Valve has yet to fix this, and I can't play TF2 if I ever leave a server. Does anyone else get this annoyance while playing?
happened on every source game for me, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't.
Your client its retrieving the server list. Just click stop refresh and wait a bit then refresh your favorites.
At least that's what mine does.
I had this randomly occur to me. It lasted a week and went away. Just leave the game on for ~10 mins then it'll work.
Yeah, I get it all the time. Apparently it's a problem with netgear routers.
What I usually do is type "ipconfig /flushdns" in to cmd while the game is open and tabbed out.

I have this same problem, and I too have a Linksys router.
I've got netgear and its constantly happening to me. Just use the server browser on steam when not in-game and search. Only way I can properly get into games.
I have a BT home hub and every other time I refresh the server list, the router reboots.
It's annoying when the whole house is shouting at you for losing the internet for a couple of minutes.
Check your firewall. My friend had the same problem, and fixed immediately after he let hl2.exe pass through.

He likely does not have his ports open or the server has sv_lan = 1
happens on every source game. but it only happens on the first game for me, if i try to reconnect as soon as i fail to connect... "STEAM validation rejected" happens for like 20 minutes on that server
