Since the Heavy is my favorite class, I knew I had to try out his new weapons, so I crafted the Brass Beast last night. After trying it out, I think it's a great weapon. I was mowing down enemies left and right in half the time it would normally take with the Minigun. When I was on defense, this weapon was especially useful because my lack of mobility didn't matter that much. This weapon seems great for frontline use because you can easily mow down any class as long as you have a Medic with you, and even if you don't, you can take out anything but another Heavy, if he has a Medic.
However, while the increased power was great, the lack of mobility severely impacted my other strategies. On offense, I couldn't even keep up with the Cart on Payload maps. Unless I was standing directly infront of the Cart, it would always move faster than me if I had my gun spinning. One of my favorite tactics is to jump around a corner and spin up my gun in midair so it's ready to shoot when I turn the corner. However, with the Brass Beast, my timing was completely off and I always landed too short. While this may be a temporary problem for now, even if I get the hang of it, I will need to make my jumps more exact with the Beast.
I also found it more difficult to time when exactly I should spin up my gun in the middle of a fight. If I did it too soon, I would move much too slowly and the enemies would escape, but if I did it too late, the enemies would already be out of my range and I would have no chance of catching them. Tying in with that, I noticed that a lot more enemies escaped from me than they did with my Minigun. I just move too slowly to catch them. The increased power doesn't affect the bullet spread, so the farther they got, the less damage I did.
So, which gun do you think is better? I like to use both brute force frontline fighting and ambush tactics, sometimes in the same life, so this is a difficult decision for me to make. Which do you use, and how do you compensate for the Brass Beast's lack of mobility?
I like to use the fists of steel + minigun, charge in with the fists, then rev up my minigun close range.
Sadly I have yet to find out and I don't have that much relative playtime as Heavy, but judging from the stats I'd only use it if I can be sure my team is there to support me. While Brass Beast does deal more damage, it cuts into your mobility and can make you an easier target, that's where your team has to support you. On the other hand you can lead a monster push with one or two Heavies that have this thing equipped.
not all of us have gotten to test the new one yet
I got raped, every class, by a heavy in the corner with brass shit and a medic.
Whichever one you want! Shit dude, you want us to hold your hand too?
Whichever one you want! Shit dude, you want us to hold your hand too?
He's asking people what they like/prefer, he doesn't want us to tell him which to use. At least read the last little paragraph, dude.
I flip-flop between all the miniguns.
I think it depends on the situation; Brass Beast is fine for open areas like on Badlands, while it was terrible on Coldfront (or at least the mid-point) where people had lots of time to run off and get cover.
I never use the Natascha though.
It's way easier killing a heavy using the brass beast generally. You should only use the brass beast when defending a point and have a dispenser/medic near you.
Iron Curtain is just too cool to not use.

I love the blocky barrel.
Well, I don't know. For me, heavy vs heavy battles involves who gets crits first.
For now, it seems medics hug closer to brass heavies as they have the newer toy. Just an observation.
I use Brass Beast for defense or on maps with tight spaces.

Pretty much this.

Am I the only one who goes out of my way not to heal Backburner Pyros and Natasha Heavies if a have another choice?

That's being irrational

You're not the only one. I tend to priorotise healing targets that are actually GOOD.
That's being irrational
Not really.
Enemies last longer against Natasha Heavies, giving them a better chance of killing me before they die.
Backburner Pyros can't save me from burning to death, and is generally less helpful to thier team if they don't use airblast.
For this same reason I prefer buddying up with heavies that use sandvich over daloohkas or shotgun.

I do that, too, but with a different thought behind it. In my opinion Heavies with the Brass Beast need more team support, but they're also able to deal more damage once in position. These two things make them more important to me than a Heavy with other equipment, given they're both at roughly above same health and ammo.

I understand not buddying up with them because they can't keep you alive, but just out right not giving them a quick heal is being irrational.

Oh, come on. Just because people use BB or Natascha doesn't mean they suck. But that's just going off topic now.
Brass Beast at the moment, I'm testing it out.

Oh, I'll heal them. Sorry if that was a bit oddly worded. I just won't buddy up with them.
But if I have a demoman/knight, soldier, Sasha/brass heavy, or flamer/degreaser pyro available, I would chose any of them first. Hell, I've done pretty well with healing Huntsman+Dangershield/Jarate+Shiv/Bushwhacka snipers in comparison.

You're still being a bad medic. No matter the class, if they need healing, heal them. Don't be a fool about it. A Backburner Pyro who is any good won't be near you most times anyway, they will be trying to get around the enemy (Who am I kidding, most Backburner Pyros are awful and bum rush head on). If they return to you injured, heal them so they can get on their way quickly. I don't give a shit if there are others around, if the Pyro is near death and your current patient isn't being attacked heal the damn Pyro.
If a Natascha Heavy is helping your team defend/ attack, heal them. The extra time you keep them alive gives them more chance to kill their enemy. If you ignore the Heavy they will likely die at some point, chances are the enemy they are attacking will be too distracted by the slow down to attack you first. Again, I do not give two fucks if there are other non-Natascha Heavies around, heal the Natascha Heavy anyway, they need all the help they can get sometimes. Plus there is always the chance your alternative patient is going to suck more balls than the "noobs" using the Backburner or Natascha.
Stop being so high and mighty and do your job as a Medic. Your kind of medic are the problem with Medics in this game.
Brass Beast is very, very difficult to use on offense. Even with a medic, you're a stand-still target if you rev it up.
On defense, it will tear through everything.
I only recommend using it on offense if the other team is using a lot of heavies; otherwise the slow walking speed makes you too huge of a target. On defense however, it's an amazing weapon that can lock-down all but massive numbers or ubers. In short: It's situational and better for defense.
Minigun, I like being the heavy who moves around rather than the heavy who just stand still in the middle of an open area getting headshotted.
Brass beast sounds and feels like a minigun. I like it.

I didn't mean I won't HEAL them, don't be ridiculous.
I just mean that if I have a another choice available, I would avoid buddying up with them because they are likely to get me killed and I would be better serving my team by choosing another buddy.
I agree the sound of the thing is just awesome, Chekko.
