Soldiers can waste rockets rocket jumping more now, and when he gets where he's going he has at least one less rocket and no fallback weapon.
It should take up the melee slot, because it is a terrible secondary.

When I rocket jump, I have enoguh airtime to reload one rocket.
I think you are donig it wrong: I have never had no rockets when I land using them.

It depends on whether you're a good player or a bad one.
You would be a bad one. If you aren't using the shotgun then you're doing it wrong, either dying too often or retreating prematurely.

The big advantage of a rocket jump is the height, it's best to shoot from above and then whip out the shotgun when you land.
I bet the gun boats were going to be the 4th weapon no matter what class won.

hell, maybe he has good aim and can hit people with rockets dead on, or uses the equalizer.
Boots are incredible in combination with direct hit(it have increased rocket jump distances if you did not knew), you can send yourself in space without way too much harm. And if you did not understanded, you lose shotgun as only con. Soo it for balance.

It's about ammo conservation, using the shotgun when you can so you don't have to use up as many rockets. Also, if you're juggling people the shotgun can be very advantageous.
Besides, that's the the point. The point is that the boots just don't compare to the shotgun as a secondary.

Welcome to subjectivism, one man's rubbish is another's gold.
I don't have it yet, but on a speculative note, I think it would be better suited to being used in conjunction with the Direct Hit. It would diminish the increased self-explosive damage, and I find that because I engage targets at a greater, safer range compared to when I use the rocket launcher, I rarely switch to my shotgun; I don't overextend, and I am rarely in a "panic" situation, with no rockets loaded and a nearby enemy.
These will be a godsend for me, as I use more duck-in, fire, duck-out strategy against more than one enemy. These will make it easier to get myself to the frontline.

i find them useful, i dont play with the shotty much. and rjumps just give you 10 damage.

Strategy-
Get on high ground, (Rocket) jump up, get 3 good shots off from the air, reload, rinse repeat till low health/ammo, then whip out your equalizer and run for the nearest ammo box/health kit.

Actually, I think the Demoman was going to get the gunboats as well, seeing as their texture file is named [b]"demo_boots"[/b].
I think they fit Soldier perfectly, 'cause I don't see many Demomen sticky-jumping at all anymore, what with the Chargin' Targe/Eyelander combo already.
