What's the Helper Initiative?
The Helper Initiative is a collective of TF2 players unsatisfied with the current situation of the TF2 Community. While Community servers still exist (with some difficulties), the real problem is the facelessness and general lack of skill of public ("Valve") servers.
What does a Helper do?
A Helper's goal is to aid any newbie that may be playing on these servers, by using both the chat and the voice chat, if a microphone is available.
What's the Helper Message?
Every Helper should have his own Helper Message. The Helper message is phrase you say everytime you join a server where you think newbies may be playing. You can write it by hand, copy-paste it or use a bind.
Every Helper Message should:
• State that you're a Helper.
• State that people can ask you questions.
You should use the Helper message as soon as you join the server and whenever you think it may be useful (maybe you've spent quite a bit of time on the server and a handful of new players have connected). Excessive usage may be considered spam and annoy people, so be careful!
If you don't want\need a customized message, you can use this one:
bind "KEY" "say Hello! I'm a Helper. Are you new to the game? Do you need any help? Ask me anything!"
Replace KEY with the wanted key and put it in your autoexec.cfg.
How do I join?
If you want to become a Helper, add me. Not everyone, but most people, can become Helpers. You need...
• At least 500 hours in the game.
• No VAC Bans on your account.
• Be a Premium player.
To be able to propose yourself as a Helper.
Reserved fo' things.
Anyway, if you guys could suggest me any guides it'd be great. I used to read a whole lot of guides about the game, but I'd prefer only the very best being added to the Big List.
Well, I use this guide for the few times I play MVM (I don't like playing it though).
we wont have to use coaching right.
we wont have to use coaching right.
The coach system is a nice concept, but it was badly executed imo.
Also is this thread for applying? Because I'd really like to join the group. (already sent you a PM some days ago, not sure you read it though).
I have 2038 hours on record and been playing since June 3 2008.
I spend most of my play-time in Valve servers, because (sadly) community servers are beyond dead and I wish I could educate the general population on the game fundamentals and on the existence of community servers (which do usually offer a better play experience through better voting system, better map rotation and occasional mods that enhance the overall enjoyment of the game).
We have PMs on Facepunch?
"4 Unread Messages"
Oh. :v:
Since people where getting quite confused about what they had to do as Helpers, I added a small "How to Help" guide in the group.
EDIT: Muh automerge.
Ok, I want to start writing the "Helper Tips and Tricks" bind script. Basically a script that cycles through a number of useful tips. Any tip is appreciated, but try to keep it somewhat short because the chat is a bitch.
This is why I still have faith in the TF2 community
Everytime I hit the bind I get troll questions, while the folks that could really benefit from it are just plain blind and deaf. It's proving to be really hard to help others.
