#1: The Moveable Object Floating above a mini-teleporter, this Sentry replacement will move between the two-four built teleporters every thirty seconds, if one teleporter is destroyed the Sentry will remain unharmed unless if on that teleporter, the Engineer builds it by putting down two or more mini-teleporter, once built the Sentry will appear and will begin teleporting every thirty seconds. Pros: Teleports to each mini-teleporter until all are destroyed Shoots 10% faster, shoots at normal speed once at level 3 Has 10% more health once upgraded to level 3 Takes 10% less damage from explosives at level 3 Only the teleporters can be sapped Cons: Doesn't have rockets Requires 300 metal to upgrade to level 2, 400 to upgrade to level 3 Teleports slower with each level, making it easier to destroy with sticky's and other weapons, takes one minute to teleport at level 3 Once all teleporters are destroyed, the sentry is destroyed as well. 25% less ammo PS: You can't build each teleporter far away from the other, you can't build one outside your spawn and the other in your enemies spawn, they don't have to be ontop of each other however. #2: Texas Slim's Rocketillery Try #3 A lot of rockets on a giant platform, this fast shootin, hard hittin' beast will kill your ass dead faster than you can say "Medic!", painted green and easy to see thanks to it's massive size, these rockets will end you. Pros: Can shoot targets 50% further away than normal sentries at level 2 Does 100% more damage than a normal sentry level 3 sentry at level 2 Only uses rockets, but fires four sets of rockets instead of one. Fires four sets of rockets at level 2, two sets of rockets at level 1. Cons: It needs two seconds to reload It rotates 10% slower than a normal sentry It has 25% less ammo No miniguns Has 20% less health than a level 3 sentry Requires 800 metal for level 2 Only upgradeable to level 2
no
no
Okay thanks for the constructive criticism, I can now make this idea perfect. [sp]/sarcasm[/sp]
Okay thanks for the constructive criticism, I can now make this idea perfect. [sp]/sarcasm[/sp]
np man
The Texas Slim's Artillery sounds entirely useless, because it would probably be destroyed before it could even fire.
Cons: It takes a full ten seconds of seeing someone to shoot Has 30% less health than a level 3 sentry
So it takes longer to start firing than it takes for a soldier to empty his main weapon, and is easier to kill. Yeah, no. Also, Grubby is a ninja.
The Texas Slim's Artillery sounds entirely useless, because it would probably be destroyed before it could even fire.
It can shoot things a lot further away than the normal sentry, before a pyro or anything could get close enough to do any real damage they'd probably be dead. Besides, sentries RIGHT NOW are almost entirely useless, the direct hit is basically an insta-kill if it crits, and every knows how to fight sentries now, the only place sentries are useful anymore are around corners, and even then if there's enough room your sentry is still screwed.
sentries RIGHT NOW are almost entirely useless
You are a bad engineer and you should feel bad. That range means absolutely nothing on almost all maps.
I know we won't get any, but I want to be able to build robots or mobile sentry guns. Maybe they could use the AI to make a buildable robotic companion for the engineer. Maybe not a mobile DPS unit, because that sounds OP. Maybe something that looks like a tier 1 sentry, but double barreled, and each shot is a shotgun blast, and it needs to reload after two shots, but otherwise the engie can get it to scout areas and bring metal pickups to him, etc so he wont risk his neck.
You are a bad engineer and you should feel bad. That range means absolutely nothing on almost all maps.
Al right it's a terrible idea right now I'll think up something.

Unless it's being tanked by a dozen Engies, any other class will be able to smoke it, from Heavy to Demo. Especially Demo. Bonus points because you can pop out, shoot it for seven or eight seconds, hide, pop out, shoot it for another seven or eight seconds, and repeat all while severely out-damaging it.
I like the teleporter idea one.

Okay I fixed'd Texas Slim's failgun. (Right?)
Okay I fixed'd Texas Slim's failgun. (Right?)
That seems like it might need a bit of tweaking, but it's much more viable. Especially against clusters, such as Medics and their buddies. A lot more punch and range, but it isn't as effective against quick classes like Scouts who can dodge rockets. It would also make cornering it more interesting, you have more time to dodge since there are no bullets knocking you around, but if you stay too long that many rockets will fucking obliterate you.
the direct hit is basically an insta-kill if it crits
Crits don't effect buildings, ffs. Why do people still think this? The reason crit rockets are effective against sentries is because they kill the Engineer repairing it, making it easier to kill the sentry.
Crits don't effect buildings, ffs. Why do people still think this?
AKA a insta-kill, if the engineer is dead the sentry is dead.
Except if you crit with the DH, the chances you'll actually hit the Engineer are so utterly horrid it's not even worth mentioning. Also, no. I've had my SG live through an attempting rush even though I went down. Timing is everything.
So what do you all think of the first idea? Is it bad? good? overpowered?
#1: The Moveable Object Cannot be sapped once at level 3
Two magical words floated from my mouth upon reading that. Fuck that.
Two magical words floated from my mouth upon reading that. Fuck that.
Okay I changed it, is that better?

How about a 'Sniper Turret'? Only upgradeable to level 2 Fires a single hitscan shot every 3 seconds (2 seconds at level 2) Causes 150 damage per shot Has twice the range of the previous sentry Has 2 thirds of the health the default sentry has Has a third the amount of ammo the default sentry has Has 15% slower turning speed This works in that it's relatively balanced. The old sentry you could sit back and shoot out of range, while this one will murder you at long ranges. To compensate for this if you got close enough to it you could easily outstrafe it. Because it uses hitscan it can pick off anything at range, but up close it's useless. One issue I see with this is that there's not many, if any maps where it could be useful, unless used in conjuction with a default sentry. Or perhaps a shotgun turret? Half the range the defaul sentry has Fires shotgun shells at a ludicrously rapid rate Has 25% faster turn speed Has a fifth the amount of ammo the default sentry has Has half the health of the default sentry Only upgradeable to level 2. At level 2 it fires much slower, but causes knockback (a la, the Force of nature) It's much, much quieter. This sentry would be the ultimate ambush sentry, and could hold it's own in any tight space. However, the small amount of ammo it has to use and it's low amount of health would mean that it can easily be eliminated by a skilled player. These ideas have their flaws and their plusses, which is the point of new weapons - they're meant to change the way you play the class. So if you're a ninjaneer, the shotgun sentry might be the one for you. If you're camping an entry point in an open area, you might want to use the sniper sentry. I'm not saying these might be viable now, just ideas.

Hell, it could be a flame sentry, afterburn could be a serious boon. But then again Robin Walker himself said that only the Pyro will be using fire, so I dunno.

It would make the engineer more offensive.
Sniper sentry would be good. Thing of the battlements on 2fort, you get a second engy to help you out and build a 2nd one. then every 2 seconds they both fire and deal 300 damage. It would kill any thing really if used right.
Is this another applicant for the OMG VALVE STEAL MY IDEA bandwagon?
There can't be any new buildables and this is why: There is no slot for the engineer's PDA/lunchbox. The only items that new ones can replace are the pistol, shotgun, and wrench.
Is this another applicant for the OMG VALVE STEAL MY IDEA bandwagon?
No, Valve have made some mistakes but surely they wouldn't use ideas like this. Too many issues to list.
There can't be any new buildables and this is why: There is no slot for the engineer's PDA/lunchbox.
