Everyone rate me boxes, I made a mistake, my laptop is 1600 x 900 and that res is available, sorry for the negativity.
My guess is that you have to also add in the parameter to make it windowed as well. [editline]01:30AM[/editline] -full -w 1440 -h 900

Choose the correct ratio (it's 16:10).
Yes, you have to change the ratio for certain resolutions to be selectable.
I actually just got a new monitor today, went to TF2 and had the same thought. But yeah, like bugfix said, you just have to pick 16:10 in the drop down box.
I wish the Source Engine was like other games where you can put any ratio into any resolution. There have been situations where I want to run a low resolution on a widescreen TV/monitor, but it gets stretched. Oh well, though, it's just a minor situation that doesn't happen too often. Would still like to have it anyway.
you can do "-width 123 -height 123"

Last time I tried a custom resolution, it didn't work. And besides, most monitors can't do custom resolutions. And also, resolution =/= ratio. No matter what custom resolution you set, you can't get a widescreen ratio into a 4:3 space.
:frown:
Yeah it doesn't really work well. I didn't manage to play longer than a minute before TF2 crashed.
You have interesting error messages.
I have a 1920 x 1080 size monitor, the games look like shit :sigh:` The problem with the ratio is that nothing happens when i set it.
I have a 1920 x 1080 size monitor, the games look like shit :sigh:` The problem with the ratio is that nothing happens when i set it.

-width 1920 -height 1080
as launch option should do the trick.
To get the best effect and also let you minimise without that bastard lag bug, whack:
-w -noborder -height 900 -width 1440
onto your shortcut this normally fixes crashing too

-width 1920 -height 1080
as launch option should do the trick.
Thanks
Read OP I made a mistake.
So I have finally got to installing steam and a few of my games on my new laptop for whenever I need to go on a trip or whatever, but the problem is the game doesn't have my native resolution as an option! I have a 1440 x 900 monitor, but I only get 1600 x 900 or 1280 x 720 or whatever. I have tried the -w 1440 -h 900 in my command line but to no avail. Help?
Pick the right aspect ratio in the Options->Video tab.
It isn't there read the thread.
take a screenshot
I have a 1920 x 1080 size monitor, the games look like shit :sigh:` The problem with the ratio is that nothing happens when i set it.
Make sure you set the aspect ratio to 16:9, because that's what 1920x1080 is, and hit apply. Then select 1920x1080 in the resolution box. Then close and reopen tf2, because if you don't, it doesn't save changes. Also make sure your video card drivers are up to date.
take a screenshot
Screenshot only works for me in game not in the options menu, but if you re read the OP i made an error.
To get the best effect and also let you minimise without that bastard lag bug, whack:
-w -noborder -height 900 -width 1440
onto your shortcut this normally fixes crashing too
Agreed, -noborder -windowed is a must in every source game.
Agreed, -noborder -windowed is a must in every source game.
What does it do exactly?
What does it do exactly?
Put's the game you're playing in a window but without a border.. Makes it alot easier to tab out etc..
Screenshot only works for me in game not in the options menu, but if you re read the OP i made an error.
print screen, paste it into paint.
