• Does Valve pay players for user created hats?

If someone sends in a hat model, and Valve accepts it, does the creator get payed like the polycount people? Or do they just tell them that their only reward is their hat in the game? (User was banned for this post ("Use the chat thread next time" - Craptasket))
Yes. They earn a portion, if not, all the profits earned from purchases made through the Mann. Co Store. This also applies to maps, if you purchase a stamp. Also, for future reference, keep short, one line questions in the TF2 General Chat: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/978570-TF2-General-Chat
they get paid IF their hat is put in the store.
they get paid IF their hat is put in the store.
Not necessarily. From what I understand, Valve has to purchase the rights to use the models in-game, unless that only applies for user-created maps.

They also get their own hat but with a special effect (or something like that) to signify he/she's the creator.
How does a person submit their hat to valve?
Contribute page.
LODS OF EMONE. But yeah, we get paid a percentage of how much I can't remember from mann co. store sales.
LODS OF EMONE. But yeah, we get paid a percentage of how much I can't remember.
Valve keeps a 25% of the money I think
They also get their own hat but with a special effect (or something like that) to signify he/she's the creator.
Self-made weapon/hat with community sparkle effect
Valve keeps a 25% of the money I think
No I think we get 25%
Don't map-makers get paid upfront, or did they stop that because of stamps?
I seriously should start to make models. I need dosh.
Don't map-makers get paid upfront, or did they stop that because of stamps?
They definitely used to get paid upfront, and I think the stamps are used as a supplement now. Not sure if they do nowadays.
Don't map-makers get paid upfront, or did they stop that because of stamps?
Mappers get 2,500USD to 3,000USD + stamps.
It depends. They can use it and not give you anything if they wanted to as you agree to their legal terms when you submit things. More info here: http://www.teamfortress.com/contribute/legal.php
Anyone know how much a hat maker gets? [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] Like lets say I make a hat and it gets into the store, will I be generating money for the rest of TF2's life? And how much would that be?
Anyone know how much a hat maker gets?
Depends on the quality of the hat, because more people buy better hats. Sometimes people earn thousands of dollars, others only hundreds of dollars.
God I'm so jealous of how much money they must get.
If I had the time, imagination, effort or skill needed to make a hat then I would
Wouldn't we all? I got myself a plan for a hat, lets see if I have the patience to finish it, and if its good enough for Valve.
