would you say. watch a 5 minute trailer of a new movie. for a pair of 3d glasses for scout?
how about checking out a new digital album from daft-punk for a pair of head-phones ingame
what about purchasing a digital comic for a belt accessory.
what i'm trying to get at is. do you think valve could promote music. or movies via their promo-items
and what are your opinions on it. [even if you hate the fuck out of them]
after all we've been given promo items for all kinds of things. from helping out earth-quake appeals. to logging on a different osx
or is this just a dumb-box worthy thread?
Nah, they'll never give promotional items for free.

Valve is just WAY to kind with the other game developers. Using tf2 to promote another games. They need to stop or find another way to promote games.
I was going to make a similar thread.
I'm a little confused on how Valve deals with promos.
After The Shogun pack came out I thought they were finished with the old "Buy this game, get this promo this one time only!" crap. Engie and Spie's new promos for Mount and Blade hopefully should be including in the random drops, and be craftable, and on the Mann co store.
Maybe with the next big update they'll do that. I'm not mad that they didn't do it with more recent promos, mainly really confused, though.
I'd check out Daft-Punk related things, abseloutly free!
Also, I doubt music will ever be promoted. The only way that would happen is if Steam somehow expand into becoming a music store too, and I don't see why they would want to do that.
Steam is the biggest gaming portal in the gaming world, but if it became a music store too, giants like iTunes would mow them down.

what if it was TF2 MUSIC
i like the idea, adds variety imo

All of the Halloween items can be got for free. Also Soldier's Medal was free at first.
what if it was TF2 MUSIC
You swift fuck, I was editing my post.
Eh, would still be sort of weird, many fans have already downloaded those for free. Would be sort of a facepalm if Valve suddenly wanted to charge money for them. Also, how would the music be in the game files then? How would we mod the music if we like without getting in trouble?
All of the Halloween items can be got for free. Also Soldier's Medal was free at first.
Those weren't promos.

Also, what do you mean with "Soldier's Medal was free at first."?

Soldier's Medal and Gibus technically are promos. Soldiers Medal is a promo within TF2 FOR TF2, if that makes any sense. Gibus is like a promo for Halloween.
Anf anyways, the Shogun items are droppable, and they're definitely promos.
Give him as many boxes as you can, so he will build his own castle and hide in it because of that thread.
It worked with clocks, it may work with boxes aswell.
I still want :tinfoil: in-game. SPUF will go absolutely batshit.
Could they?
Yes. Without a doubt.

Would they?
I'm unsure.
Would I want it?

I dont dislike the idea of promotional items, but i dont like how it works atm.
i wish it wasnt limited time, so if you buy on pre-order/sale time you get genuine/vintage version.
after that time you get normal version.

Alien Swarm Parasite :eng101:

take your box back
All promotions for TF2 that come from other games have involved buying the actual game on Steam. If you don't buy it on Steam, VALVe doesn't get their cut and you don't get promos. I doubt they'll put up promos for things that aren't on Steam.

But, that was an achievement item.
But, that was an achievement item.
Down Syndrome cats can get that achievement.

This little fella said hello.
And despite it being an achievement item, the game itself was still free.
I was sort of sad the potato sack-thing didn't come with cp_aperture, based off the artpass. :P
who wouldn't like more hats..

Buy an 2010 BMW m3, get tire hat for soldier in team fortress 2
Nah, they'll never give promotional items for free.
Mannco Cap is, more or less, free.
Mannco Cap is, more or less, free.
:what:
When you spend money.
Mannco Cap is, more or less, free.
You have to buy stuff from the store to get it. Very free.

's why I said "more or less".
Honestly. I love promotions.
If it weren't for them promoting the Sam and Max items, I never would have bought The Devil's Playhouse, decided I loved the game, bought the other 2 seasons, and fallen in love with the series.
