• Equalizer has no downside?

I can't find any negative stats for the equalizer. Is there a point in picking the shovel over it?
It does like 30 damage at high health. And you can't be healed while using it.
When you have low life you will immediately pull it out. That's a big signal to just shoot him once with a pistol and he's down.
Not really, no. It does less damage if you're at high health (but in a normal situation you probably won't have a reason to melee unless you have low HP) and people can see you running fast and know you have low health, but those are both extremely minor points no matter how you look at it.
You run slower than you would with a shovel with full health.
The downside (as stated by Valve) is that it's only effective when you're on low health.
I can't find any negative stats for the equalizer. Is there a point in picking the shovel over it?
You gotta be damaged to use it properly? That's a major downside to me.
You run slower than you would with a shovel with full health.
What?
http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Equalizer All you need to know about it.
It does like 30 damage at high health. And you can't be healed while using it.
I REALLY wish soldier would fucking know this when crying to me to be healed.
I still think the shovel needs some kinda buff, even if its just a tiny one.
The shovel is awesome, it needs no buff.
You gotta be damaged to use it properly? That's a major downside to me.
It's great, because at low health you can do insta-kills with it. [editline]03:30PM[/editline]
What?
You run faster the lower your health is.
I would say that the recklessness it tends to promote is also a downside. I see Soldiers charging with the Equalizer more often than I see them fleeing with it. The latter survive, generally.
-No healing. -It's only effective when you're very low on HP. 2 downsides right there.
You run faster the lower your health is.
He was more in response to someone stating that you run slower at full health with equalizer than with a shovel at full health. Which, you know....is crazay :derp:
-No healing.
You can put it away unless you're completely out of ammo, which almost never happens.
-It's only effective when you're very low on HP.
It does more damage than the shovel at 150 HP and even if you're at full health a crit will do ~100 damage.
The shovel is supposed to get a buff (Sorry kids, going off what others told me), to make it a hard choice between that and the pick. I honestly hope Valve does this. They already phased out the backburner (HURR WHAT IS A BACK), let's not see it happen again. Also, at the lowest, the EQ can oneshot a 300 HP heavy on crit. Thats a bit absurd, as even the axtinguishurr can't even do that.
The downside is if you ever pull that fucking thing out while I'm healing you I will probably never heal you again >:(
I wish it wouldn't crit, then it the regular shovel would be worth using.
I wish it wouldn't crit, then it the regular shovel would be worth using.
Crits are a silly mechanic anyway. And even then, as said before, lose 50 HP, the pick becomes a shovel/better, along with a speed boost. Downside? Hardly. If anything, shovel should make you go faster on rocket jumps or some shit. Probably still wouldn't be worth over the EQ.
Or health boost using the shovel.
It does have a downside, but it's still pretty much an upgrade in every sense.
Is it just me or does this thing crit way too often, even when the Soldier is at full health?
Valve themselves stated that as of right now, given the general Soldier play style, the Equalizer is a direct upgrade. They said that they may give it a bigger downside/buff the shovel in the future if it causes an issue, but for now the Equalizer is the first upgrade item. (in before Ubersaw, KGB, Axtinguisher, etc.; same shit I got last time I said this) [editline]04:32PM[/editline]
Is it just me or does this thing crit way too often, even when the Soldier is at full health?
It's just you. It's the same as people complaining that the wrench crits far too often; it doesn't. It's just your imagination.
It's bad if you like to taunt after your melee kills. Which I do :(
It's just you. It's the same as people complaining that the wrench crits far too often; it doesn't. It's just your imagination.
Sure. Just as the same soldier crits the medic, two chargin' tards, and another soldier in one run before dying to a stray pill. I was on turbine when this happened. Fucking hell.
It's just you. It's the same as people complaining that the wrench crits far too often; it doesn't. It's just your imagination.
So every time that thing kills me it's just my imagination. :tinfoil:
It's just you. It's the same as people complaining that the wrench crits far too often; it doesn't. It's just your imagination.
Melee weapons crit way too often in general.
Downside of equalizer: When it becomes decent to use, you'll die with one hit.
