Today we're unveiling the TF2 Contribution site. This nifty site will allow anyone who's made a custom piece of TF2 content to submit it to us, with a view to it appearing in-game. Many of you have been building fantastic TF2 work for a while now, and we wanted a way for you to get it in front of all TF2 players, and for everyone to see that you were the one that built it.
Also, we've now added an official feed for harvesting TF2 inventory data for all the folks out there building nifty web pages around items. Technical details are as follows:
* The TF2 client installation now includes tf\scripts\items\items_game.txt. This is the item dictionary most of you have been working with for a while now.
* A JSON feed describing the TF2 items in an account can be reached at this URL: http://steamcommunity.com/id/<steamID or vanity URL>/tfitems?json=1
Use the definition indices for item types, attribute types, and quality levels in the JSON feed to index into the items_game.txt dictionary, and you're good to go. Note that it will respect the privacy settings on steam profiles, so it won't report the inventories of players who've marked the profile as private.
Awesome Blog Post, I bet I'm late however.
Oh fuck, can we expect Community Made Weapons now?
I just hope that people who get their pieces approved by Valve don't get special weapons and whatnot. Not everyone has talent. :frown:
OH MY GOD YES YES YES. See, I believe that this is the right way to go with TF2. The community has always been a huge part of TF2, and having item drops made by the community, well, it just fits, somehow.
I agree
Oh god oh god oh god yes.
Quick get NeoDement to submit his Gentlemanne's Fancy Dress
Community weapons?
THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT IDEA
someone make a detpack for the demoman
Ew, the font is ugly on the page.

At the most their probably just get a copy of the hat they entered.
In fact: "Pending approval, your item will get added to your backpack, and cycled into the random item drops in-game."
Yeah, I get the lates when I posted first.
Your item or avatar will be reviewed, using the latest technology. Visualize pulleys, levers, and creative labor practices.
Get someone with talent to make one for you
this is interesting I want to see what type of stuff actually gets into tf2.
Sucks I can't submit the .SMD's, but whatever. I'll re-format everything and flood them!

Would be neat for my first hat to be my own.
I am now not crafting a hat until the custom hats get added.
Sucks I can't submit the .SMD's, but whatever. I'll re-format everything and flood them!

suck my dicks
yes the hardcore poodle hat
YES IM FINALLY GETTING ONE
Hopefully, we will get to see the heavy auto cannon in game, the defender minigun that someone designed.
Wow.
This is EPIC.
Does this mean custom CODE that they make, or just appearance?
Now someone needs to make a cardboard box hat for the heavy with a target panted on the face area.
Team colored target, of course.

A special version of the item they made wouldn't hurt, you know.
Just a nice special color or unique name, anything less would make the author feel like just tool. Afterall, making special models/ideas/skins takes much time and effort.
Time to make a hat and Demoman Dynamite sticks :haw:
Someone needs to make a Sniper/Spy melee weapon. An alternate secondary weapon for the Demo would be cool, too.
This sucks, most of my hats i've made have more than 1 texture.
I like this because we can now have more content and I think contributors should get stuff since its not like they are going to add any shitty submission. Only a few will be added.
They should've released an sdk for making custom models
They gave you a link to a modeling program in el SDK.
I'm missing something,
where?
