GreenMarine Confirms "Styles" Of hats, i.e, Different Engineer Eyes

It all started when I posted a thread, complaining about the Engineer's googly eye, opposed to the more, electronic one.

What started as a boring thread, got fun, when GreenMarine came into post some info.
The robot one wasn't submitted until just recently. We'll add it as an alternate appearance (a "style") once that system goes in.
A "style system"? Tell me more.
OH COOLIO, IS THERE MORE?
Why yes. Yes there is.
Styles let you pick between appearances. People with the white eye version will get the robot eye version as an alternate option. When they pick that option, other players will see it.
This feature is still a little ways out. It's dependent on some hat-optimizations currently in the TF2 beta that need to ship first.
Wow. This is some cool stuff!
:toot:
Enjoy!
Oooh, so that's what that backpack button on the beta was for?
So you can have one hat/misc and have several different models for it?
Interesting
I hope with the style system they might bring back some alternate skins for the classes. Nothing too different, but stuff like their beta clothing would be nice.
I think customization is going too far...
Perhaps the Dapper Topper will get the Uncle Sam version on it when this feature releases.
It's also possible that the styles could let you choose how paint is applied to certain hats, like the Stovepipe or the Tosslecap.
This excites me. Sexually.
I like the idea of styles. It'll provide more variety to hats without having to have 2 hats in the game that look identical.

Stylish Spy.

And then I just agreed so hard my mouse quaked i nfear
I'll be taking bets on how long it takes GreenMarine to wind up in a ditch somewhere for the next 5 hours.

This is how it should have been in the first place.
In before female models becoming both official and base model "styles".
I like it, it evokes the same mentality as Steamplay. You buy (or trade or craft) it once and all variations are free.
I've been hoping for something like this.
If all styles are free this is great.
Mmm styles. This could get interesting..
inb4 styles cost $19.99
I can't wait for this :flashfap:
If they continued this style system,, I'd like to see them make the Googly eyes for Pyro have a different style, as in, no pupilas, and allow the white part to be paintable. Then Pyro would have full color eyes, would be awesome for those Team colored eyes Skull hat wearing Pyro designs.
I also want to see the Big Country and Doc hair moved to misc slot...and possibly them add a Misc 2 slot, for added customization.

way too much clipping
So basically you can swap the skin of your player and other people can see it?
This sounds good.
Robin already confirmed this a while back. He said the Gibus would have this sytem too, allowing Ghastlier Gibus owners to select the original Ghastly Gibus as an appearance (but not the other way around, since the 'Ghastlier' appearance is exclusive to those who got them before the second Halloween event).

Hello decreased framerate.

...How? If anything, the Ghastlier Gibus would have less polygons.
Really good idea, i think.
