http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=23444
It's time once again to announce this year's Saxxy Awards, and we couldn't be more excited! Last year we shook up the rules a bit by reducing the length of the themed categories (Action, Comedy, Drama) and adding a five-minute Extended category. We were overwhelmed with so many high-quality entries to the Extended category that there were some great entries that didn't get the recognition they deserved. So, if you're working on an entry to the Extended category, it may be worth editing your piece down to three minutes and submitting to one of the themed categories instead. We know it's not easy, but solid editing can make a good submission great! As always, we can't wait to see the amazing videos you create! Don't forget that all Valve universes are available for use, and SFM shorts that were submitted to the Dota 2 Short Film Contest are also eligible for this year's Saxxy Awards. The submission deadline is November 11th. Remember, you can upload non-final versions up to a week in advance of the final deadline, to guard against last-minute computer failures, internet outages, login problems and so on. Check out the guidelines for details on the rules and deadlines, and get your entries ready!
It's that time of the year again folks! [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] Also I didn't see a thread so I made one!
I can't wait for the top videos to be commentary on the shitshow that is the current state of the game.
I'm so fucking happy for this. I was afraid Valve stopped doing Saxxys because they stopped doing shit for SFM. But now that they announced the 6th Saxxy awards, I still got hope. I've seen some great stuff come from it and I can't wait to see what folks come up with this year. I just got started on my entry a few hours ago. Good luck to everyone else with theirs if you're into that sort of stuff.
I can't wait for the top videos to be commentary on the shitshow that is the current state of the game.
congrats!! you won saxxys 2016
I hope there's some L4D1 videos
On that note, why won't people just prepare for next year's Saxxys months ahead rather than jump-starting on a video when the awards are announced? If time is an issue, then just finish the project, don't ever talk about it, and wait for next year's.
I thought people did that? If I were making one I would. It makes sense!
Is personal advertising allowed? I've been wanting to compose music for some saxxy entries for a while. I actually did write the music for the first scene in Blu Team's Day Off, by Viking Skirts. I've done several styles, but I've been trying to focus on replicating the TF2 style. I'm getting better at it day by day. Here's my most recent attempt. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nhln0f24h24ttce/tf2%20music%20demo.mp3?dl=0 I have a soundcloud link on my profile but the demos there are kinda old and poopy.
Gentlemen, I give to everyone who like me has a team a big good luck. At least I found the infamous modeler who was supposd to do the jumpsuits. Not gonna give you any disappointment of an entry, but You'll see yourselves.
I don't think I've seen anything better than this: Anyone know of a saxxy entry that tops this one?
Nope, I don't think Story of a Sentry can be topped, especially in complexity and overall execution. I don't want to sound mean, but I hope this year's Best Overall winner won't be an unfinished/rush video.
There are better animated ones, but Story of a Sentry is forever going to be the best drama and probably best overall execution we'll see.
The gambler. Ehhh, I still think this one is the best when it comes to drama. Haven't seen a better one yet. I really hope this year is going to be full of gems. I can't get enough of these !
As always, I really wish Valve would just extend their Saxxy awards outside of being centered around TF2 prizes.
i disagree with that, i think it puts tf2 in the spotlight from valve for once, which is nice [editline]10th August 2016[/editline]

I think someone started cutting onions while i watched that one
[DEL]i honestly don't think story of a sentry was that good[/DEL]
[DEL]i honestly don't think story of a sentry was that good[/DEL]
The music was nice, though.
Oh damn, don't I feel silly. I'm looking at the guidelines again and I see "Only entries submitted between Friday, November 4, 3:00 PM and Friday, November 11, 3:00 PM PST will be considered". Meanwhile, it's August the 11th and I'm almost done with my short. I wonder how many other people have (or almost have) fucked themselves up like that submitting it too early.
Good luck to everyone this year! Can't wait to see all the amazing entries!
There are better animated ones, but Story of a Sentry is forever going to be the best drama and probably best overall execution we'll see.
i cried manly tears on that one. he did such a good job giving the characters life and detail. if you think about it, its hard to make people sad over an inanimate object like a sentry, but he managed to do it. id like if more SFMs took after that one when it comes to fleshing out characters and giving them personality
Quick question, if this certain Saxxy requires only animation, setting, lighting, sound editing, and the assets are already made and don't require much remodeling and retextures, and can be made into a Shorts category, will I be able to meet the deadline? Haven't even started yet, but I do have a main story down. I don't have any experience on animating in SFM nor in lighting or creating a setting though.

Don't forget that this got a nomination in 2014.
Don't forget that this got a nomination in 2014. I still think it was more deservent of a Saxxy then this
As always, I really wish Valve would just extend their Saxxy awards outside of being centered around TF2 prizes. I think the fact that it has the aforementioned prizes, it gets people to only make some quality TF2 SFM vids (besides that the TF2 models are already in-game). I want to see more non-TF2 entries like CS:GO or HL2 or Portal 2. TF2 videos are always great, but I think it's been over-saturated. They need to challenge themselves by breaking out of their comfort zone. Another thing that also bothered me is that Turbulence won despite that it was barely finished. Of course all the pieces are there, but it still seems kinda silly that an unfinished project won. Imagine if that CS:GO chicken bomb video or the TF2 mech video made a huge sacrifice in quality just to enter at the right time? I hope I don't see any amazing videos that has huge quality dips, but thankfully Valve shortened the length down to 3 minutes. On that note, why won't people just prepare for next year's Saxxys months ahead rather than jump-starting on a video when the awards are announced? If time is an issue, then just finish the project, don't ever talk about it, and wait for next year's.
Turbulence was funny tought It fully deserved it Unfinished, but still managed to be funny. Can't wait to see the video people prepared for this one! Good luck!
What we need is for anonym00se to submit some videos. Like this resonates with me on a spiritual level In all seriousness even though Turbulence was good it was still rushed and the end was unfinished

We need new stuffs
Everything he does is based around prexisting audio though. Although basing a SFM off of its own audio or creating something completely original with its own music, like last years winner, would be very nice.
Aw hell yeah lemme see badass scout videos
Aw hell yeah lemme see badass scout videos
I can't wait for the pain and suffering that awaits him also. [sp]Talking all of the "drama" entries[/sp]
can't wait for the heartbreaking tale of femscout's miscarriage, truly tf2 is the greatest IP for drama
