~~What is it?~~
Fallout: New Vegas is an upcoming role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Bethesda Softworks. While New Vegas is not a direct sequel, it will use the same engine and be in the same style as Fallout 3, and is being developed by some of the people who worked on previous Fallout games at Black Isle Studios. It will be set in and around post-apocalyptic Las Vegas (New Vegas). It has a projected release date of Fall 2010 and will be available on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
~~History?~~
Fallout: New Vegas was announced on April 20, 2009 at Bethesda's London showcase. The first official information was released in the February 2010 issue of PC Gamer. A cinematic teaser trailer has also been released. Fallout: New Vegas is due to release in Fall 2010.
~~Setting~~
The game is set in a post-apocalyptic, retro-futurist Las Vegas following the Great War between the U.S., China and other countries, a conventional and nuclear war that occurred on October 23, 2077 and lasted less than two hours despite causing immense damage and destruction. Before the Great War were the Resource Wars, during which the United Nations disbanded, a plague rendered the United States paranoid, and Canada was annexed. The city of New Vegas itself didn't get hit as much as other districts, and most buildings were left intact. Hoover Dam supplies all the free electricity and water to those who control it.
~~Story~~
The story will continue some parts of the Fallout and Fallout 2 stories, but will not be related in any way to the one in Fallout 3.
Fallout: New Vegas will take place in 2280, 3 years after the events of Fallout 3 and 39 years after Fallout 2, making this installment set the farthest in the series. The New California Republic will play a major part in the story, in a three way struggle between the NCR, the Caesar's Legion slavers, and the local New Vegas populace.
The player will play as a courier, who was left to die in a shallow grave, rescued by a robot named Victor, and patched up by a Doctor Mitchell.
~~Gameplay~~
The gameplay system will be similar to the Fallout 3 gameplay, although some changes have been made.
~~HARDCORE MODE~~
Hardcore mode will be an optional setting which makes the game more realistic with things such as dehydration and healing over time.
such as...

~~Character system~~
The SPECIAL system returns, and directly influences speech options and quests. Like in Fallout 3, perks are gained every level
~~Combat System~~
The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System, or V.A.T.S., is an active pause combat system implemented in the game, just like in Fallout 3. While using V.A.T.S., the otherwise real-time combat is paused. V.A.T.S. also allows the gory deaths in the game to be shown in slow motion and great detail. Attacks in V.A.T.S. cost action points, and the player can target specific body areas for attacks to inflict specific injuries. Unlike Fallout 3, melee weapons now have special moves in V.A.T.S., such as "Fore!" for golf clubs.
The player will be able to modify their weapons with larger magazines, scopes etc. The unique weapons will also have an unique skin.
~~Karma and Reputation~~
Karma is back, but now incorporated alongside a reputation system, similar to Fallout 2
~~Developers?~~
Fallout: New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, a company founded by Feargus Urquhart and Chris Avellone, two of the makers of Fallout 2 (originally at Black Isle Studios). The project is led by J.E. Sawyer, one of the lead designers of Van Buren, the canceled Fallout 3 project by Black Isle Studios. John R. Gonzalez is the lead creative designer, while Obsidian founder Chris Avellone, who worked on Fallout 2 and Van Buren is a senior designer. Joe Sanabria is the lead artist.

I personally think yours has more content and is better all around (Apart from all of the sirens) I was merely showing you that one was already made.
Please replace the sirens with [ ] or > <
Mmm... the game worthy of the name "Fallout 3".
I fixed it.
Can you preorder this game at Gamestop yet?
I like this thread. Some of these pictures I haven't seen before and the rest have more detail than their cropped counterparts

Rams?
I prefer this thread so there.
Hey anybody else notice they took a few ideas from a few mods for Fallout 3? Glad to know they listen.
Yeah I came when I read about hardcore mode. Sounds awesome.
I liked Fallout 3 at first, but over time I grew to dislike it. It just wasn't that great for me. This one seems more exciting due to the atmosphere. I actually lived in Las Vegas for 9 years. It will be interesting to see if there is actually a functioning society with electricity and such like the break-down of the trailer said.
This is the best thread a '10-er has made (Except that one with the janitor).

I didn't even look at his join date. It isn't really important.

That doesn't really matter, though.

Lovin' the new companion options.

I've been visiting here since Gmod 8. early 2006/late 2005. I got banned by a shitty mod in a bad mood for mentioning piracy.
I also find it ironic that the only person that looks at join date is someone thats an 09er.
Ugh, the gamebyro engine. :barf:
I really wish they'd stop using that...

I can see where you're coming from on that, but honestly its so tried and trusted that mods will be able to come out much faster. It also allows for this game to come out much faster than it would if they made a brand new engine.

If meshes and textures (both custom and vanilla) from Fallout 3 can be used in New Vegas - or even vice versa - it will be worth it.
lol oops i bumped the old thread

I said it in the other thread, but I guess I can say it here too:
If you play in 3rd person, you are doing it wrong. Sure, looking at your character in 3rd person is fine, but actually playing, no, not really. It wasn't designed to be played in 3rd person.

When I'm trekking across the wasteland I usually go third person so I can have a better view around myself. When the fighting comes in First person is what I switch to.

The running animation isn't even sycned with the speed at which your character is moving IIRC, so your feet slide regardless of the direction you are moving if you have a faster than normal movement speed. I could be wrong.
Looking forward to this.
Just afraid the amount of recycled models will ruin the overall experience.
I'm hoping that there is a big vegas strip that you can walk into and during the night it lights up beautifully. If it doesn't have that, then the game is a maybe for me.
Sorry, there's DC style super mutants, that is wrong, they are different on West coast.

Thankfully this is the last game from them that will be using it. They're moving on to the ID Tech Engine with future games.
