Empiresmod is an FPS/RTS hybrid sourcemod that's available on steam (for free of course). I'm one of the developers, and I need help. www.empiresmod.com -- Website http://store.steampowered.com/app/17740/ -- Store Page (has download link etc) But first, let me tell you about it: It features huge servers (64 is the max server size, which actually twice as large as source naturally supports) Vehicle and infantry gameplay (up to 64 tanks can be on a server at once, if the server can handle it.) Fuckloads of huge maps (20 standard and hundreds of customs) 4 individual intantry classes, a commander, dynamic base placement and construction and a fuckload of other features. It's a strong game that's been around for a very long time, and it's still being actively worked on by developers, our community is in the hundreds, and we can get up to 100 people playing online on a good day. The game and the community has been through hardships of all kinds, our site has been DOS'd, our servers have been attacked, abuse and threats have been issued against high profile community members, but we've gotten through all that crap, we had to, otherwise we wouldn't be here today. But recently something big happened, our main US server shut down, the owner, for personal reasons was no longer able to keep it up. The problem is, that was the only stable US server with more than 32 slots, basically cutting half of our community out of the game, with only a european server remaining, it's likely the US players will leave within months if not weeks. Probably permanently What I need from you, is to spread the word about this game, play it if you haven't already, come back if you have played it. Get some friends together and try it out as a group. Get more numbers for us, and try and get us a new US server, if you know someone who'll host it. This may be the tipping point for our mod and without another server and continued player activity, we might die.
Empires was fun once upon a time, but the game has been dying for a long time. I'm actually amazed it managed to hang on this long. By the way, is the US server you mentioned the Viper server? Because if that went down, I won't be going back any time soon. It was the only server I could ever get a decent ping on.
Viper was still up the last time I checked. It would even get full occasionally. This really is a great source mod. the classes and combat feel dynamic depending on the map.
I love how they've kept the horribly nerfed scout rifle in the game after saying for years they would remove it in the next update. Just like how they said that aircraft was coming soon (like five years ago). Here's some advice; if you want more players, don't piss off the playerbase. How is it fair that the Riflemen have little to no sway when in iron sights and standing yet zooming in with a scope gives very noticeable sway, even when you're on the ground.

I say this as someone who has over 5 years of experience with the game, I was around when the sniper rifle was a 1-2 hit kill weapon, and even then it was a worthless class to play if you weren't in the enemy's base sabbing their buildings. On maps without bases (district, eastborough, escort, etc), the scout is most effective as a squad leader, using squad hide with an SMG and melee upgrade. So yeah, the scout rifle being shit has nothing to do with people leaving. It's always been a terrible weapon used by new players who don't understand the game.
I'm happy to front money for a us server, but nobody is ever willing to host it.
And please, don't immediatly drive the Command Vehicle into the water if you see it unattended.
And please, don't immediatly drive the Command Vehicle into the water if you see it unattended.
Or cade it in walls or buildings, or put mines or turrets around/near it. Actually for that matter, don't touch a vehicle unless your commander gives the say so. He needs those resources to push for end tier weaponry and engines of mass rape. I've seen some incredible come backs where our commander spent most of the game teching and playing defensively. Suddenly he goes "EVERYONE GET TANKS" suddenly nuclear tanks storming around, can of whoop-ass was released. Engineer is a shitty class when your repairing. They just drive off leaving you exposed or run you over.
Mod had some awesome potential, but the devs never pushed out enough updates. Still, I love this mod.
If the mods dying out, why not go indie? It's obvious the team has talent. I'd like a Empires like game. I loved the huge battlefields and dynamic combat.
64 is the max server size, which actually twice as large as source naturally supports
No, that is wrong, source supports a max of 255 By default.
No, that is wrong, source supports a max of 255 By default.

You'll see an integer called "maxplayers", which has a default value of '16'. Change the '16' to whatever you'd like, but going higher than 32 is not recommended, and obviously don't go below whatever is defined for "minplayers". You can also change "defaultMaxPlayers" here if you'd like.
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Changing_Maximum_Player_Count By default source has networking issues past 32 players.
