FRANK[/url] is a text-based adventure game based on the Unix console.
It looks interesting, but I can't figure out what to do after the tutorial. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to crack any passwords.
am I the only one who was reminded of frank's adventure when they read the title?
Well this is moderately creepy.

Well, unless anyone has any other ideas, i'm stumped.
Does anyone know what the string of characters does when you type in "cat /home/frank/frank"
I tried changing users thinking it's a massive password but nothing happens :(

Also, :D

Oh wow, I didn't realize there were servers with anonymous ftp access.
@hypno: Those long strings are MD5 hashes, but you don't need to do anything with them (at least not yet). You'll know a password when you see it. Keep exploring the ftp.

Bullshit.
Type in ifconfig to list available network devices, then type in "ping -broadcast (whatever network device is available)" to see whats available to access through FTP.

God damnit I logged into bob and he had absolutely nothing, and now I don't know the password to log back into frank.
that password and computer name is randomly generated for each game, btw
you don't really need to log back into frank.. try bob's login on different computers

I now have the executable "james", but I can't run it without administrator permission
I have a question, what's the point of this game? I am playing it again but what is the objective?
There is no clear objective. There is a story line, so I guess the objective is to unravel the story. But I don't know how the story the ends; I've never played it before. You can tell the game is linear though; it's modelled after linear text-based adventure games. It gives you the illusion of freedom but there is clearly an order of things you need to do to progress.
