• Penumbra not that scary (may contain spoiler )

I just bought Penumbra Overture and so did my friend. We started it up and played together via steam voice chat. The game at the beginning was a little errie, but other then that, it was jsut puzzley, not scary. Now we did get freaked out at the spider and dog part, but we owned both of them with our hammers :P What sucks though is that we cant find any gun powder now for the TNT barrel, we got the fuse ready, just no gun powder, anybody know where to find it? I do recommend it for anybody who wants a little scare and likes to solve puzzles :)
I'm yet to find a game that really makes me feel scared. "Jumping at your face and screaming like fuck" isn't horror to me. Only one that has had me feeling afraid was Dark Corners of the Earth.
You use the TNT barrel from the explosive room/area to blow up the caved in area.
The second one is slightly scarier because of the small rooms and intelligent enemies (Penumbra Black Plague)
Ninja'd

I believe it's in a barrel and you just collect some.
Black Plague is better, as well as more 'scary'. You can't fight anything, only run.
I get scared easily, the first two penumbras (not requiem) really scared me.
Black Plague is scarier than Overture. Requiem is just a puzzle game and doesn't really contain any horror.
I agree to an extent, it will take a bit more than dogs and blue men and a worm to scare me. Needs more variety and more running away.
Playing through with voice chat. There's your problem right there. Nothing beats breaking atmosphere more than voice chat during single player. Also you should try a bit more finding that item before complaining tbh.
Go back to where you found the dynamite and smash the barrel with your pickaxe and then combine the string and baxtrin and use the string on the gun powder from the barrel.
OP: Add me to steam, I know where it is.
Its good i got it :) Thanks guys
The trailer scared me for crying out loud...fucking worm thing...
I swear people are talking about requiem or penumbra requiem and i know they said it doesn't exist but i am not sure anymore weather it really exists or not because on every penumbra thread someone mentions Requiem
it does
Since when? Wasn't it an april fools joke?
Ah you're only there. Hahahahahahah. You haven't gotten to the actual scary part. The whole game is basically preperation for that one part. With that in mind, have fun!
Since when? Wasn't it an april fools joke?
I have it in steam games....
everyone says prenumbra was scary, I played all three games in the dark with headphones on. All it got out of me was the occasional "what the fuck was that?"
It's near impossible to find a genuinely scary anything these days.

I've been playing Call of Cthulhu lately.. Holy shit. IMO CoC is way scarier than penumbra.

I think only once or twice through the entire game was there really a jump out at you moment, and they were in good taste at least. Penumbra... I really don't wanna come off as obsessed with the latest in graphics here, but I dunno. The environments and effects are good but enemies that look like they're from quake 1 and all having choppy animations gliding across the floor just always bugs me.
Black Plague is way scarier. Especially with no weapons, at all but it has smarter AI, and the AI is something you should actually be a bit more scared of rather than wolfs and spiders. Give the 2nd one a try and lets see you say penumbra isn't scary. :v: [editline]04:34AM[/editline] Also with you talking to your friend at the same time and cooperating it's killing the factor of it that you're meant to feel alone and helpless.
