Half-life 2 game of the year problem

I just have one problem with my Half-life 2 GOTY edition, that I bought:

I got a new computer few weeks ago and I want to install my Half-life 2 on it. But my CD is scratched and It gets interupted in the middle. But since I installed my games before on my Steam account, is it possible to install them through steam for free, if I give them my validation code or something?

But if you bought the PC version, then the box comes with two parts: the CD key and the actual CDs themselves. When you create and login to a Steam account go to the [B]Games[/B] tab and you will see at the bottom a button titled "Activate a product on Steam..", click that and follow through the procedure to activate Half-Life 2 on your account.

Now you have two options for installation:
1) Click on Half-Life 2 in the [B]Games[/B] tab and choose the "Install" button that appears in the lower right corner of the window. Follow through the procedure, and Steam will download Half-Life 2 from the Internet. Download speed depends on your internet service.
2) Insert the Half-Life 2 CD from the box and install it that way, typically this is faster. Note that when doing this, the game still has to update through the internet before you can play, while when downloading it from the Internet it automatically updates with the download.

Once you have activated Half-Life 2 on your Steam Account, it's on there forever, unless you use a cheat and get VAC banned. You can go to any computer that has Steam and download and play it that way. You don't need the CD once it's installed on your computer, only your Steam account.

Logon to steam and double click on HL2 and any other games you want to install in your games list. Steam'll download it for you.
