• I can't start a server on minecraft - "failed to bind to port"
    12 replies, posted
I was able to make a minecraft server before, but now the server tool just tells me: [INFO] Starting minecraft server version 1.1 [INFO] Loading properties [INFO] Starting Minecraft server on (My IP) [WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT! [WARNING] The exception was: java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address: JVM_Bind [WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port? Anyone that know how to solve this? Do i just delete and reinstall the server tool?
There is another program running on the same port, are you sure there is no other MC server already running?
Are your ports open?
No MC server running already... I dunno if my ports are open, but considering it worked before... I guess so.
[url]http://www.canyouseeme.org/[/url] Check the default MC port 25565
Error: I could not see your service on (I.P) on port (25565) Reason: Connection timed out
So open your ports then.
How do i open them? I'm not exactly a coputer genius...
[QUOTE=Sindre1996;34664138]How do i open them? I'm not exactly a coputer genius...[/QUOTE] Linksys router: type 192.168.1.1 into your address bar. Type your username and password (ask your administrator or parents what is it if you don't know it). Proceed to Applications and Gaming. Go to the Single Port Forwarding tab. Set internal and external port to 25565, have the protocol be "both". Next, you'll need your computer's internal ip. Go to start menu and type "cmd" in the search bar, without quotation marks. Run cmd as an administrator. Next, type "ipconfig" in the command prompt, again, without the quotation marks. Look for your "IPv4 Address". It should be 192.168.1.(your extension here). Go back to the port forwarding page that you were on previously and type your IPv4 extension underneath "To IP address". If you did it right, your port should be open. If it still doesn't work, you may have to list Java as an exception on your firewall. Hope this helped, contact me on Steam if you have any questions.
I'm pretty sure my brother tried logging in once... The password we tried didn't work, so he asked an admin for a new pass, which didn't work....
If he gets a socket binding error it is not due to his ports not being open, it is because another program is listening from the same port as minecraft wants to listen on.
Have you tried other ports? If you know one that definitely works, usually for another game server or such, try it out. If that fails, then it's not a port problem.
