Hey guys, I just found my Falcon 4.0 disc and manual and am going to install and play it. I remember seeing in another thread mentions of some mods that apparently made Falcon 4.0 a lot better. Can you guys recommend some to me?
Open Falcon. http://www.f4support.com/forums/index.php Check out that forum. You'll find the install links and setup guides there and the guys over there are very friendly and helpful. If you need any help with anything, let me know. I fly it quite often.
Thank you. I am reading my gigantic manual and it seems very involved. I might need some help with the different radars.
Expect to be still learning the ins and outs of your aircraft for the next month or so. Just learning how to coldstart your aircraft, taxi, takeoff, fly your navpoints, and RTB at your 'optimum' airbase is going to take you a while to figure out. It's a big game with a lot of realism; which means you're pretty much going to have to sit down and actually study it. When it comes to radars you're going to be not often switching modes. What modes of radar you can expect to be using will largely come down to the mission you're flying or the targets you're trying to hit. It's all mental. Do you need a smaller scan area to scan fast or do you want to cast a wide net? Are you sure you can afford to even have your radar on as it lights you up on the ground AA instrumentation? Et cetera. There's lots of stuff to keep in mind. Thankfully, once you've got most of the routines down it'll be just like 'Coldstart the aircraft' and you'll take your time, go adjust all the nozzles and hit all the switches in all the right places, and then wait for your navigation system to align to the local ILS. I'm still earning my "pilot wings" in the game so I can't say much about coordinated strikes but I hear the wings that fly campaigns in multiplayer are fun to run around in. You can watch some youtube videos of it if you're wondering what such a thing looks like; I can provide links if you want. This is the sort of game that takes a long while to learn and an even longer time to master. Especially when it comes to landing on aircraft carriers on a regular basis. I've yet to meet someone who has flown a night mission in bad conditions with no cockpit lights and no instrument lights who has successfully planted their ship onto a carrier's flight deck -- but I bet with enough skill you could.
Yes, it's definitely a study sim. If you guys want to try some multiplayer flights, I can try to teach you some things. I'm not an expert, but I have quite a bit of experience with it. If anything else comes up, send a PM and I'll try to help out.
