:siren:THREAD ORIGINALLY BY BOYBLUNDER:siren: Better explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauerbraten_(game) Summary: "Cube 2: Sauerbraten is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS. Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine. " The best thing of course is the level editor, which is very open. I used to map for this. It's pretty hard to make good maps, but the editor is easy to get into at least. [editline]11th November 2010[/editline] EDIT: Hahaha the tutorial is from an Aussie chick, thought the accent sounded familiar.
Yeah, I've been trying mapping today. I'm trying to figure out how to make the game put messages in, because there was one sp level where in the top left it came up with: Commander: Okay, you're gonna jump yadda yadda (My name, even though I didn't type it): Okay.
It's a scripting thing. I remember this. I used to play this game all the time, and I made some improvements to Eisternen, the RPG version of this. Too bad I can't find those files.
Any scripting tutorials?
Great editor for ovaling about in. Instagib is great fun.
Yeah. I'm not that good at the editor though. I first played it yesterday, and after at LEAST half an hour, all I made was this: Does anybody know of any advanced editing tutorials? I want to make a map with a little more oomph. [editline]11th November 2010[/editline] Also, can I put down a set of particles, like a fire or something?
Personally I reckon you'r ebetter off learning to make good deathmatch levels, since the game is so fast to edit, get a few friends on an editable server, make a basic layout, play a few rounds, update etc. for balance, continue to edit, make badass deathmatch levels.
How do I use custom textures?

Players move so fast they can get around a full map in twenty seconds. Best to add more vertical than horizontal play.
People should also try assault cube. I will admit, the run speed in Sauerbraten is too fast.
bump
First video in the OP doesn't work.
i dick around a lot in cube it's fun to make deathmatch maps in the editor
Are there any better third party editors for Cube 2? Using the editor, although straightforward in Cube 2, seems very unpolished, and unprofessional. Is there something to the equivalent of Hammer or UDK?
G > Scrollwheel to change grid size.
thanks. Do you know how to make slants?
Check the edit menu and it tells you all of the basic controls.

We should all get together to play this on a coop edit server sometime.
A group of FP'ers actually did last time, but the group slowly faded into obscurity.
We should definitely do it. I'm bad at hosting servers (it's not my internet, but whenever I host anything it tends to fuck up) so, does anybody want to host a server? [editline]13th November 2010[/editline] Also, if somebody finds a tutorial on how to use custom models/textures that would be nice. [editline]13th November 2010[/editline] Erectin' a castle
I'm working on a city map right now, wondering whether I should get some friends in coop edit and get a bunch of unique buildings, but none of them are really good at it.

A proper dedicated server would be great for FP. InstantMix did host for a while in the old thread but that hardly worked out.
Yeah we need a proper Dedi serv indeed. Instant Mix is trustable but he appears quite late. We could try getting a hamachi network up and one of us hosts via that. I hope this thread doesn't die like our last one :ohdear:
It won't while I'm sitting around.
Height Map editing sucks. Make two walls, texture into cliffs and pull out with height mapping. Messes up where they join, but I'm guess I'm doing it wrong. Also, no HM editing and commands like /vscale online. This needs bumping!

[editline]14th November 2010[/editline] Also, how do I open a previous map? My map, castle, isn't on the load map menus, and I don't know the command for it.
