IN DEVELOPMENT http://www.thetrench1916.com/ http://www.moddb.com/games/the-trench For what this is I don't think it gets enough publicity.

Environment of the game
The Trench takes place on only one map composed of two trenches: a French and a German one separated by No Man’s Land and its surrounding area comprising of forests and villages. Trenches are made of three lines connected by narrow communication galleries. You will find shelters, first aid posts, command posts, saps and so on. This environment is bound to climatic conditions (rain, snow, and storms) as well as the cycle of day and night.
Different ways of approaching the battle
One of the main mechanics is that the game begins 3 days before the German assault on the 21st February 1916. These 3 days will always take place on the same map Firstly, this time will allow you to prepare for the future German assaults. You can request a 75 field gun battery on a precise zone, air support, “coups de main” in the German trench, position foot soldiers in strategic places and more, these 3 days will allow you to approach the battle from a different angle and prepare yourself against the future German attack. This offers the player an important level of replayability.
First Person Shooter
At the beginning of the development The Trench was 50% FPS / 50% RPG. The Trench is now mainly a FPS with a small part of RPG. The realistic mode is still there, it is now included in the 4 choices of difficulty (easy, normal, realistic and customized mode). The ability to infiltrate and cover will be developed as part of the FPS mode.
Role Playing Game
The RPG element of this game involves an inventory system to store your items, Being able to communicate with NPC’s and also secondary missions, characteristics for the equipment as well as the customization of some weapons , for example : adding an APX scope to the Lebel, Placement of Filloux cannons etc.. So what do you think? Another over-ambitious project, doomed to fail like the rest of everything that looks good? I think this one might actually have a fighting chance, I mean look at the damn quality of the engine and the visuals. This definitely has some talented work going in to it. Moddb release date says Q4 2011, game hasn't had an update on it or it's website since March, so it's kind of hard to know what to think. They have started taking preorders, so there is actual money at stake based on release. A thread on the official forums say's they're shooting for a release on November 11th (guess why).
Man I remember playing an HL1 mod called The Trenches. Good times. It was fun with everyone with bolt action rifles because it actually took skill and quick reflexes xD And nade spamming added a certain feeling to it, I cannot explain. But random explosions = lulz

This looks amazing. Always wanted to play a good WWI FPS. Any others you guys know about in the mean time?
Also before anyone wonders you can only place as France. [editline]25th May 2011[/editline]
This looks amazing. Always wanted to play a good WWI FPS. Awesome, I'll look in to it. Wow, the animations for the gun in the second video are a bit rough, especially the full reload. The previous round disappears as soon as the character grabs the next.

This is the game I've been waiting for. I think I am in love.
Anyone interested should really do their best to support it; register on the forums, posts comments, watch it on moddb, advertise it elsewhere, whatever. I really don't want to see this die due to lack of interest. I think the forum only has something like 13 threads.
A actual WW1 based game that isn't full of dinosaurs, aliens, or other fantasy bullshit? My god it's like a dream come true!

Not many players at the moment.

Not many players at the moment.
The game is a pretty weak WW1 experience. Not to mention that the community of that game, which is very, very small, is pretty awful. You accidentally shoot one guy (and from across the map that is quite easy), most go bat-shit crazy.
Hell yes.
Completely unrelated. Runs on torque.
Well shit nevermind then. I thought this was the newer one.
Cool, the game mainly being an FPS and just using RPG style inventory and dialogue reminds me of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Looks awesome. It'll never come out, but it looks awesome.
And it's single player too? This is going to be great.
And it's single player too? This is going to be great.
Yep, no confirmed multiplayer. Which I consider a good thing for things like this. One forum post says they might look at coop after release.
Coop would be even more awesome.
I remember there was a guy on here with a Steve Urkel avatar who made a thread about making a WWI FPS and at first I thought this was about that guy and I was like "Wow he actually did it" but nope.
I have always wanted this
Fuck yeah, target practice under mortar fire. That's how real men do it.
You know what would be cool? Message runner/liaison and possibly wiring side missions. And trench raiding of course but that's already confirmed.
Second vid reminded me of call of duty.
Second vid reminded me of call of duty.
:frog:
Dear god I have watched and waited for this for so long- but heard no news, so I gave up all hope. My spirit has been rekindled. :unsmith:
:frog:
hurr durr call of duty is bad, get out :downs:
This looks spectacular. Should it come out I am definately getting it.
hurr durr call of duty is bad, get out :downs:
CoD isn't inherently bad, this just looks nothing like it.
Actually looks pretty decent.
