Need for Speed: High Stakes (also known as Need For Speed: Road Challenge in Europe and Brazil and Over Drivin' IV in Japan) is a 1999 racing video game, developed by Electronic Arts Canada and published by Electronic Arts. It is part of the Need for Speed series, once again featuring a host of exotic sport cars and tracks located in Western Europe and North America. It is notable in the Need for Speed franchise for being the first installment to include a damage model and a career mode where the player earns money by winning races and can spend it on more cars, upgrades, or repairs.

Best NFS game for PS1.
I really liked the local police option and the cars.
Snowy Ridge :argh:
I have this on PC, still runs on windows 7 :D
Best NFS game in my opinion, although very closely followed by Hot Pursuit 1.
I hate it how I always read the title as "High Skates".
Also, NFS III: HP > this.

I prefer the PS1 version though.
man, this game was my childhood. had it on pc, but it stopped working when I switched to windows 7, so i'm getting it on the PS1.
EDIT: OP, I noticed you missed a bunch of tracks, wheres red rock ridge?

The list is the PS1 version.
I never heard of that track before.
Hot pursuit 2 and Most wanted are the best NFS games imo

Yeah, my mistake, its one from NFS3 that was in NFS4 as well.
Still own the disc, but it is scratched too much to read it. :(
Are emulators allowed here?
After this game I know of no cars that featured the australian sports cars until gran turismo 3, with the "Tickford" (Ford) Falcon.
Shit was awesome.
I have the PS1 disk and box is sitting on my desk right now.
The 1998 NFS Hot Pursuit was the best game in the series. > this.
This game was so fun. Even more on PS1 thanks to the Local Police option. Needs on PC though.

"STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE !! YOU'RE NICKED PONDLIFE !!" /caps
I had the Australian Version. I would save all my money up for a Ford Falcon XR8.
I still remember some cheats for the PS1 version.
I think "Whirly" unlocked a Police Helicopter.
And the Titan car, with the horn that said "Oh Yeah!"
Great times.
imo nfs underground was the best nfs
All the cars in this game looked like they had way too big rims

I mean that thing is like a foot off the ground
So you posted that in a High Stakes thread....Why?
Are emulators allowed here?
Yes totally. As long as you dont say anything about warezing the game.
If you have the cd, you can emulate all you wish

I don't think he realized that this game was made in 1999.

"Underground is the best game. I can lower my car and look like a pimp to my friends"
Please. High Stakes was the best NFS game.
What's with people and 'unhdergraund ist besht imo' bullshit?
Underground was a disgrace, seriously.
I don't want to see future Underground series. I want NFS to stay on its roots.
THE END.
It wasnt bad. But now the Underground style has been milked to much.
I don't know why somebody rated me dumb.

I think Shift and Hot Pursuit are a sign of the NFS series going to a great direction.
World, on the other hand, was an utter and complete fuckup. I guess this really means an end to all that illegal streetracing with highly tuned cheap ass imported cars.

Or at least I hope so.

I think the code for the titan was hotrod, there's also flash that unlocks that phantom car.
I dug up my PS1 disk some weeks ago and want to try it again on emulator sometime.
Is there anywhere I can get this game? I miss it so fucking much. I was 7 years old when I last played it and then my brother sold it. I wanted to kill him so bad. :argh:
I played this game alot, i still have the disk here.
I remember NFS 2 so much with all of the vehicles that you had to cheat to get.
I remember one time in NFS4 I was just racing along in el nino, when a snowplow rammed into me. I spun around in the air like mad, then got shot out of the game world, into the void.
