It's been a long while since I made a rant thread, but I felt that this was the time for me to make yet another.
Recently, the latest in the Activision published game series Call of Duty was released, the game was subtitled "Black Ops". Then the hate started. Instantly afterwards, a lot of people on Facepunch bought it and then some complained it was a rehashed formula and didn't really bring anything new to the series. Did you not gather that this game was going to be similar to the last?
If you didn't like Modern Warfare 2, don't buy Black Ops, it's as simple as that.
Also, in addition, publishers do not take a notice of the players requests when their morale is about as crumbly as a Hob-Nob biscuit. Imagine if there was a war in America, about say, high taxes. So you're all fighting over High Taxes, but then you just stop the war abruptly and give into the high taxes. That's not how you do a war, and it's also not how you do a boycott.
The Modern Warfare 2 no dedicated server boycott was awful, the STEAM group had many, many people join. People determined to get their message across about how they didn't want their game to plagued with console-esque systems such as Lobby over PC-orientated systems such as Dedicated Servers. The STEAM group numbered many, but their protest was not to last. Within a week of the release of Modern Warfare 2, at least the first page of listed members of the STEAM group were all playing Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer. That's not how you get a point across.
In conclusion, you know what you set yourself in for, and if you spent the money on a game that you secretly deep down knew you didn't like the formula of, then tough. You shouldn't have bought the game in the first place. If you didn't like Modern Warfare 2, then why buy Black Ops? If you don't like what the game contains, and you still buy the game following a boycott, you make the developers and the publishers think they have done something right. Therefore they will continue to make games as they have. So, before you buy a game, think. Do you like the games that came before that one in the series? If not, then why buy it, for you know, deep down, that you'll be heavily disappointed by the game.
Oh, and if you're in a boycott, you're not supposed to buy the game on release day, that's just how it works. If you don't like the game, and you knew what it was going to be like before you bought it, then it's your own fault for buying it. Don't complain.
/rant.
I thought Black Ops was received well on Facepunch?
To be fair, I liked Black ops.
But I agree with your rant, no need to moan over everything.
I thought Black Ops was received well on Facepunch?
Well received by most of the people who played it.
The rest are instantly calling it shit because it has Call of Duty on the cover.
I have played black ops and love it so far and if someone else thinks otherwise then that is their problem.
America would never go to war over a tax, that is just ridiculous
:smug:
I love Black Ops so far too, I wasn't moaning about the game, only the people moaning about the game.

You get my point.
I remember a lot of people on FP liking MW2 after launch, saying that the singleplayer was short but fun and the multiplayer was addictive. Now people talk about it like it's the black plague.

To be fair, that was more than likely to do with the poorly done PC portion of the game, which included non-free DLC.

According to my memories nearly everyone from FP that brought it hated MW2 since it's launch day. Black Ops is pretty decent, apart from extremely short but fun singleplayer and some bugs in multiplayer.
The only thing that sucks in Black Ops is me :v:
The only thing that sucks in Black Ops is me :v:
Don't worry, I'm in there too, with my 0.4 K/D Ratio
Didn't get Black Ops because as of now I just see it as MW2 with cool stuff added in. I might change my mind if a friend makes me try their copy and I like it but as of now it doesn't seem like it'd be a game I'd enjoy.
Besides, I can always go play MW2 if I want a quick round or two. All the little kids/idiots/rich people/fans have probably moved to Black Ops anyway.
The story of Black Ops was fantastic.
the rest was pants.
The thing with the campaign is, if you take out all the bits where your character is falling down then it is about 20 minutes long.
The only reason I disliked MW2 was because everyone was talking about it nonstop for months at my school. The community is absolutely terrible, but the game itself isn't that bad.

Oh, and this.
I actually am boycotting Activision, at least until they get better. I won't buy any of their games, and that's my own decision.
Still, I agree with you on this, Juggernog.

Good luck, Activision are slowly yet surely buying out the gaming market. It's the truth, but certainly something I do not want happening. At least they actually allow the porting of games to PC, unlike some companies.
I like black ops a lot so far. The only problem I have with it is the lack of patches to fix obviously broken game mechanics - like the spawn system.
I have high hopes for a patch, but I just hope that the devs won't get lazy with it.
How was it extremely short? What would you consider a long yet linear FPS then?
It was about the same length as the first CoD, and shit was long. 5-7 hours of pure gameplay of singleplayer does not mean extremely short.
It's short if you play it on easy, which is what a lot of people do. Then they turn around and say the campaign was 'good but short'. Irritates me to no end.
I liked MW2's single-player, but it still felt too Hollywood to me (I laugh at the people who think the game is realistic). and since I rarely if ever play a game's Multiplayer mode, I can't really complain about that. But I still won't get Black Ops, because... I have no money... :frown:
Black Ops is heaps of fun, once you look past the horrific spawn system and intermittent lag spikes.
Black Ops is fun, MW2 is fun, games are fun.

What's gaming coming to anyway if everything goes the way of today's games?
Of course the Black Ops singleplayer was fun, but you simply cannot replay it and experience something new, because it is like a movie, completely linear. Old games like Deus Ex could be replayed several times and you could still find new ways to finish them. You cannot make decisions in most of the modern games, the storyline is on rails: Kill someone you shouldn't to and it derails 'aka' mission failed.
I wholeheartedly agree with you, OP.
I'm boycotting Activision, and while Black Ops looks fun I'll still wait a few months and just pick up a used copy at Gamestop or rent it from a friend.
It pisses me off to see "boycotters" not sticking to their promise, it sheds bad light on people like me.

yeah getting spawnkilled three times in a row by an AC-130 is LOTS OF FUN ALMOST AS FUN AS GETTING SHANKED BY SOME SHIT RUNNING AROUND WITH A KNIFE AND THE COMMANDO PERK or playing through the singleplayer and realizing you've wasted your money on a plot that makes absolutely no sense at all and lasts 7 hours

Well, I've had some fun playing it anyway. I am very satisfied.
[editline]15th November 2010[/editline]
Also, 7 hours isn't that short. Especially for a game that's mostly aimed at the multiplayer. It's a first person shooter, the plot doesn't have to make sense. DOOM doesn't make sense, as an example.

i'm going to be honest
non-linear call of duty does not sound fun at all
You act as if everyone who disagreed with the formula bought the games.

I think it's fine that way, if the story is good, and long. The first is personal opinion, the second really isn't. Like, I enjoyed Half Life, and it had a fairly good story, and it was fairly long. Wouldn't say it was my favorite, but it was/is a good game.
(to me)
i'm going to be honest

I agree. Most older games were linear, and nowadays there are both linear and non-linear games. There's loads to choose from, stop moaning.
I kinda liked mw2 and I would like Black ops, unfortunately FPS is horrible for reasons unknown and drops in FPS in multiplayer make it unplayable. So I'll bitch and moan until they fix their shit.
