Hello Facepunch.
Im just letting you guys know I have been charged with developing Afraid Of Monsters 2, now in order for me to do this Rumpel (the creator of the original AOM) has asked that I gather Ideas and Concepts for the new mod and that I pitch them to him, if he likes what he hears he will give me the go ahead to begin.
Now here is where you can help, I am going to ask YOU (facepunch) to come up with ideas, I want to know what sick fucked up things are in your head and how you would get under players skin, what horrific things you would subject them to.
Basically if your ideas are good enough i will add them to the pitch I want ideas in the following forms:
Story Direction- Things like setting, time, atmosphere i want you to describe a location to me what the player is, who they are, what they see, the world they are in. Main character ideas locations etc.
Monster Ideas- original ideas for horrifying abominations, the things fear is made of, the things hiding in the dark waiting for the right time to strike, their animations their attacking style their role in the world, how they sound etc.
Gameplay Mechanics- this concerns weapons, player movement and control, interactions with objects and the world, how combat will work, how the flashlight and other things work.
Scare Ideas- this is a big one, ideas for climatic scenes in the game, different random and horrifing confronttations, be they subtle or in your face.
Music and sound- what sort of music, Dark Knight style single note increasing volume suspense, gothic style music? and what sort of sounds will populate the world?
And finally ANYTHING else you can think of that would scare the shit out of you, what you would like to see in the game, what would get under your skin and make it crawl.
I will also be using this to look for team memebers, our memeber have to have a sick imagination and you may get on and see your horrifying nightmares come to life. Tell me Facepunch.. What can Afraid of Monsters 2 do to scare you.
TLDR: I want some ideas for AOM 2, now read the whole thing.
One sec, I'll get a video.

I would like to apply for the position of mapper, modeller (not main modeller) and skinner.
Ah Begotten, its disturbing and yes some of my ideas have come in some form from scenes in this, but im afraid its a bit to different. However a person disembowling themself is almost garunteed to be in there >:P
Ok, well, what about dark, depressing colour correction and some thick, almost blinding foliage.

Just picking out stuff from the video that could be used.
Cry Of Fear is still going ahead as Planned, Rumpel will be letting me develop AOM2, as long as he likes what we come up with, I will be getting my entire team from Facepunch (Mappers, Modelers, Compilers, Scripters, Writers, Texturers, Coders) I can do all those things so im not just an Ideas man, but I want a good team.
Get a monster that throws his OWN head at you
What about a sequence where you're in a room, and cannot go any further, when suddenly the floor boards start literally crawling away (with weird ass sounds and movement included), revealing a dark hole in the middle of the room?
Would be a mindfuck, definitely.
If you dun need any Major coding, i could help.
Man I want to see the zombies fucking shamble at you at the speed of light.
Yessss! I am very pumped for this! I fucking loved (hated, because it scared the shit out of me) AOM!
For mapping, I think there should be a lot of terrain that is hazardous/dangerous, like fire and acid. It should give the feeling of Hell or something. It definitely should be a little bit more difficult to get through levels.
I think a way for presenting the story could be having reminders of what happened, like having radios broadcasting horrific events happening, or computers playing back audio of something. I think it would be awesome to have clues through out the levels and piecing them together would be like figuring out a puzzle almost.
I got a good idea why not use a female character like the menu look.
What about buildings that are completely overgrown with brambles and shit and are falling apart?
Darkness, fuckload of cheap scares, admins should have david leatherhoof powers and weird mindfukery, you could also look at some pictures of skin diseases and stuff like that.
Cry of Fear is pretty much Afraid of Monsters 2.
Nope Afraid of monster 2 is on source.I think.
If you make a direct sequel (to the good ending), it should be about David Leatherhoff telling a therapist about the nightmares he had before the big one.
No battery's for the flashlight. I will NOT play this mod if you have to get fucking batteries for it.

Agreed so hard, batteries were a pain in the ass.
What would be cool is some sort of hanging body at one point, the player will see it in plain sight, and think nothing of it. As they continue they hear a footstep or 2, look back, and see the body started swinging.
They turn back around, boom, monster.

Its a good idea but how would we know that the player will turn around to check?

Ugh that movie was awful. Not disturbing, just extremely bad and pointless.

I dunno, maybe we could have a different sound play like a laugh or something?
Footsteps. Fast footsteps when you can't see any living creature. Like something is coming for you.
That scares the living shit out of me.
Babies, add baby monsters.
Every game that has baby zombies/monsters scares me as hell.
There should be a level where if you look out the window you see a thunder and lightning storm and then lightning strikes and in a flash something crashes in through the window.
Have a moment where you have to sneak through some place, in hope of the monsters or whatever not noticing you, you have to push a button to open a door or something and it releases an alarm - alerting anything nearby, oughta give the player a real "oh fuck" feeling.
Oh and make sure the main character was dead the whole time. They'll never see it coming!
Make a painting that follows you with its eyes.
Make a scene where the walls and everything turn into butterflies and fly away (BTW, imagine the opening to Shivering isles), and you end up in a colorful, happy environment, but then as you walk along, it changes back and you see blood everywhere, zombies replace the happy patients in the hospital, a man who was in the wheelchair is a man, while the person who was helping the man in the wheelchair is a zombie/monster, who rips the man to shreds. They swarm to you, you try to run, but the doors are locked, you have to get to the elevator, in which the doors close, it starts, but stops. A monster is on top of the elevator, it breaks open the emergency hatch, and then the wires break. You fall, and survive. The monster is dead, and you end up in the basement.
Sound good?
I'd like to see something like in Dead Space where the player enters an elevator after escaping from a mob of enemies only to have one or two try to bust the doors open.
That scared the living shit out of me in Dead Space.
