^Thread Music^ Some information may be incorrect, Ill fix any missing information pointed out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoo_Tycoon_(series) Zoo Tycoon is more or less like your average Tycoon-brand management game, only this time your running, Big suprise, a Zoo. The series itself is what you would call a "Spiritual Sucessor" to Rollercoaster Tycoon, which already has a thread here thanks to Shotacon. Basic Gameplay (shamelessly stolen from Wikipedia article on ZT1 because im lazy):
The goal of Zoo Tycoon is to create a thriving zoo by building exhibits to accommodate animals and keeping the guests happy. Exhibit-building is one of the primary goals of Zoo Tycoon. To keep the guests and animals happy, exhibits should be suitable to the animal; for example, a lion is best suited to a savannah environment.[SUP][1][/SUP] Choices in terrain, foliage, rocks, shelters, fences, toys and the presence of zookeepers all contribute to the suitability of an exhibit and the happiness of the animal. Guest happiness is dependent on animal choice, animal happiness, buildings, and scenery. Buildings may include bathrooms, restaurants and food stands, shops, or entertainment buildings such as movie theaters. Scenery involves aesthetics that raise guest happiness slightly, such as topiary art, light posts, or benches. Keeping both animal and guest happiness allows the player to gain monetary awards and steady income. To help manage the expanding zoo, players can employ maintenance workers, zookeepers and tour guides. There are three modes in Zoo Tycoon: Tutorial, Scenario, and Freeform. Tutorial teaches the player how to build exhibits and keep guests happy. Scenario mode has the player complete a series of objectives, sometimes within a specific time-frame. These objectives may include achieving a certain guest and animal happiness, achieving a certain exhibit suitability, displaying a certain number of animals, or breeding a certain animal. Freeform allows the player to choose the amount of money and the map with which they start. They are presented with an open lot and a limited selection of animals, buildings, and scenery available for purchase. As the game progresses, more animals and items become playable. Additional animals and items may be researched, where money is invested to make them playable.
The game was good, only there was some glitches. Thankfully with mod support these glitches were fixed plus people can add to the game by downloading or making mods for the game. there were also 2 expansion packs for the game: Dinosaur Digs: Adds: What else? Dinosaurs, plus some Phreistoric-themed buildings and scenery. a total of 20 new animals are added in this expansion pack plus Electrified Fences of diffrent types to keep them in their place, and phreistoric foliage. Marine Mania: Adds: Water tanks for fish, dolphins, sharks, and other sea-mammals. You can also host Aquatic shows to please the crowds. even better, you can merge the water tanks with existing land exhibits to make more suitable habitats for animals. Complete Collection: Adds all the aformentioned expansions and can work standalone. Zoo Tycoon 2 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoo_Tycoon_2 This is the 2004 sequel, only with 3D environments instead of the basic 2D Isometric view. Gameplay (Yet again stolen from wikipedia):
There are a number of gameplay modes in the game, and each (with the exception of Freeform) has differing limitations. A Freeform game in Zoo Tycoon 2 allows you to create the zoo of your choice, the only restrictions being space, animals, and objects. The player's money supply is unlimited, and all items are available from the beginning of the game (except those that can only be unlocked in Scenario and Challenge games). Freeform games begin with an empty zoo, to which the player adds animal exhibits and guest facilities (such as restaurants and bathrooms), hiring employees to staff and maintain them. The player chooses a plot of land for their zoo to be built upon at the start of a new Freeform game, and each plot of land represents a different biome (the biomes are alpine, benthic, boreal forest, coastal, desert, grassland, pelagic, reef, savannah, scrub, temperate forest, tropical rainforest, tundra, and wetlands). Each plot of land is also a different size (large, small or medium). The player must accommodate their animals with spacious enclosures, adequate food and water, animal enrichment objects (toys or items that otherwise encourage the animals to use their natural instincts, abilities and behaviors), shelters for them to sleep or gain privacy in(which can be found under zookeeper recommendations), and environments that suit them (for example, the bengal tiger is naturally inhabitant to the tropical rainforest biome, as is the common zebra is to the savannah biome). The player must also provide for the guests, which is done by placing food and drink stands, bathrooms, picnic areas, seating, trash and recycling bins and playgrounds around the zoo. The player can create a range of elevated and lowered terrain types, including hills, valleys, cliffs, basins and ditches. In addition to Freeform mode, there is also a Campaign mode in which the player chooses a campaign to play through and is placed in the shoes of an average zoo owner and is assigned different goals to complete; these goals may include having to breed tapirs, train dolphins, rescuing abused animals and more. As well, there is a Challenge mode in which the player has a limited amount of money (although the player can choose their starting amount) with which goals must be completed. Some goals are harder than others.
Theres nothing really diffrent to take note about in here, since it mostly stays true to the original game's routes, only with 20% Less animals and its in 3D instead of the Isometric 2D you remember. For the best expirence, buy the Ultimate Collection edition to get the base game plus all Expansion Packs. List of expansions: Endangered Species: Adds more Endangered Species into the game as the title says, plus adds more environmental-based missions for you to do, and Environmentally themed buildings. Example animals added into the game are the Orangtaun, Komodo Dragon, and even variant skins of current animals such as White Bengal Tigers and King Cheetah's, one of the bigger hallmarks of this expansion are Jeep rides and Sky Tram rides for transportation. African Adventure: This adds African-based buildings and more animals into the game, including the Secretary Bird and, of course, Meerkats, also live lizard food. also fixes up the Jeep transportation so you can actually drive cars through exhibits so people get a closer look. Dino Danger Pack: This was going to be a piece of premium content but was taken offline on the Zoo Tycoon Website, though you can still get it standalone or with Ultimate Collection. It basicly adds a small amount of dinosaurs. Yep, thats pretty much it. Zookeeper Collection: more like a standalone pack, with all the aformentioned Expansions (except Dino Danger) along with the base game. Marine Mania: Named after the same expansion pack in Zoo Tycoon 1, it adds 20 aquatic animals and basicly is a "Port" of the ZT1 Marine Mania pack, with all the bells and whistles of the classic expansion in Zoo Tycoon 2. you can still do aquatic shows and stuff. Extinct Animals: Last expansion, it is kind of a port of Dinosaur Digs, only with more stuff to do, including Breeding DNA in the research lab to create animals. More stuff included is not just dinosaurs but even some extinct animals from the period (Wooly Mammoths, Giant Sloths, Sabre-toothed Tigers etc.) Ultimate Collection: works the same as Zoo Tycoon 1's Complete Collection pack, adds all the ZT2 Expansions in one large standalone pack. Yes, you can also mod the Sequel, but the entertaining part is the rather large amount of machinimas on Youtube made using ZT2, absolutely all of them are crap. Finally, some Q&A: Will there be a Zoo Tycoon 3? Nope, not with Blue Fang Games having cut their deal with Microsoft in 2009, though it could happen. Where can I get these games Amazon.com, dunno about other dealers though. When was this released? The first one was released in 2001, while Zoo Tycoon 2 was released in 2004. Links: http://zootycoon.com/ Main website for ZT1 and 2. Zoo Tycoon 2 was the shit. I still can't get the music out of my head
I remember getting Zoo tycoon 1 and the dinosaur expansion for my birthday. I was happy with it. Very happy. Me and my brothers played the shit out of it, even bought the marine mania expansion for it.
I too remember getting Zoo Tycoon 1 and the dinosaur expansion. My pc at the time (family computer) couldn't run the game, so I wasn't able to enjoy it for a while. Still, a good game.
i loved the game too
I used to get a ton of animals, get a lot of visitors, block the exit and then sell whatever kept the animals in. Loads of fun...
I think I still have my Zoo Tycoon 1 complete collection disks I got from goodwill for 3 bucks around here
I fucking loved this game. [editline]26th March 2012[/editline] A friend of mine managed to trap a load of tourists in enclosures, then let the Lions run around the park freely. PEOPLE ZOO.
Does anyone have the link to that old thread where someone played Zoo Tycoon? It was really funny.
I once made a zoo, but the lions had cubs so often that the enclosure ended up taking up about 1/4 the park. This was on a large map. [editline]25th March 2012[/editline] Somebody should port Zoo tycoon 1 to Android and iOS. Make loads of money.
I played the dinosaur one until my eyes bled, back when I was like 7.
My step-sister had this game when our parents met. To say the least, there was constant arguing over the disks. I'm not entirely sure which is the better game. While ZT2 takes the cake in the graphics department, I like ZT1 because of the fact that it fucking had cheats. It was impossible to get money in ZT2 for the various missions.
Zoo Tycoon is one of the most nostalgic games for me. I remember nearly choking to death once when I was waiting for the agonizing loading screen. I think I flipped a coin into the air and I, being my spastic self, accidentally let it fall into my throat...somehow. Never played Zoo Tycoon 2, though. v:v:v
Nostalgia Overload!
I once made a zoo, but the lions had cubs so often that the enclosure ended up taking up about 1/4 the park. This was on a large map. Played it all the time as a kid. Used to lure guests into cages and then trap them in there using rope or some shit. Then I discovered the fantastically strange user-made animals and learned how to download them. Ended up having a zoo of walking trash cans. I miss this game
I like how penguins in the first game DESTROY every animal that is put into the penguin exhibit
I like how penguins in the first game DESTROY every animal that is put into the penguin exhibit
Somewhat reminds me of this easter egg in Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals: EDIT: if your wondering how to get it, you just got to slip up in the Research lab's button mashing puzzle, by chance it will pop up as the creation instead of the usually created monster animals you get upon failure (Giant Bullfrogs lol)
NOSTALGIA. EVERYWHERE.
Does anyone have the link to that old thread where someone played Zoo Tycoon? It was really funny.
Could that thread be, perhaps...this one?
DUDE, I HAD ALL THE PACKS. nostalgia trip ftw.
I tried it once when I was younger, but I think I preferred Rollercoaster tycoon with the zoo addon pack. Mainly to throw civilians into the lions cage and act like a god
Motherfucker you made me reinstall Zoo Tycoon 1+expensions. 2 is baaad.
I remember getting the complete version ages ago. I also remember my tigers fucking like rabbits. Striped cats everywhere.
I loved this game but after a while everything starts breeding like crazy and you spend most of your time running round cages selling animals so they aren't overcrowded
I loved this game but after a while everything starts breeding like crazy and you spend most of your time running round cages selling animals so they aren't overcrowded
That's another thing I didn't like about ZT2. You could get rid of animals, but you could only rehabilitate them to the wild, I think, you didn't get any money for them.
I remember getting the complete version ages ago. I also remember my tigers fucking like rabbits. Striped cats everywhere.
I know that lions like to fuck, but not tigers. Tigers everywhere, I just turned my whole zoo into the lion exhibit.
I remember playing both games demo when I was like 7 or something I had a blast
Dinosaur expansion basically meant Jurassic Park simulator IE build fences, make park, release dinosaurs on guests
Obligitory mod demonstration for Zoo Tycoon 1:
