So I somehow haven't heard of this game but the scantly clad anime has me interested, what is Catherine?
Cathrine is a Atlus made Anime like game about a loser named Vincent having trouble with his life, he's been going strong with his girlfriend Katherine for 5 years and she believes it's time to tie the knot and have kids and all sorts of good things, Vincent however, afraid of it changing his life holds off and decides to spend his time at a pub called the Stray Sheep with his buddies. As the clock winds down and Vincent kills time a mysterious blonde bombshell of a girl seems to enter named Catherine, she approaches Vincent and soon the poor guy passes out.
He wakes up in a hellish tower, surrounded by sheep, wearing nothing but his boxors and armed only with a pillow, the ground begins to collapse and he needs to climb to safety, and once there he wakes up home safe... until he peeks over his shoulder and see's he just slept with Catherine. Whoops!
Worst part about it is young single men all over appear to be dying in their sleep, and a rumor is spreading quickly that only those not faithful to their girls are dying.

So what's the game play like?
It has two parts to it actually, one part plays like a dating sim type deal where you spend time in the pub talking with customers and friends who come in, playing in the arcade, getting drunk (which helps in the other part of the game) and dicking around all which balance a kind of Karma meter (It's more Law vs Chaos then Good vs Evil) everything you do takes time and you can leave whenever you want, but staying around the pub lets you help characters, converse with them, and even prepare them for the nightmares to come (and in turn save their lives). As you spend time in the hub world Vincent will receive text messages as well, and once you can answer them however you feel like, tell one of the girls to back off and give you room, invite them to come in and get drunk with you, whatever you want to say. Just be aware it does effect the ending (there are 8 endings)
The second part of the game however is drastically different, most similar to games like q-bert you start at the bottom of a crumbling block tower, and you must push and pull blocks to reach safety in time as the floor falls away. During you're climb you'll have to deal with sheep that are trying to flat out push you off the cliff, strange blocks with a ton of random effects (Instant kill, blocks that can run away from you, ice blocks) and sometimes even bosses that chase you up the mountain firing off all sorts of insane attacks. It's really something you need to see, and as I mentioned before you can drink 3 times each night in the Stray Sheep to buff yourself for these nightmares, making Vincent move faster and scale quicker.
One disclaimer though is the game is a brain buster and quite rough, expect to die. A lot.

This is why polygamy should be socially acceptable. :colbert:
Also, this game sounds pretty great, the sheer surrealism of it is enough to bait me in. How much is it going to cost?

Fuck, I don't have a PS3 or an Xbox 360 :saddowns:

It's a full priced game, and it comes out this Tuesday
And no PC-version predicted?
Goddamn it, I was actually interested in this one.

bad thread.
First Atlus game I'm not really interested in at all, I was interested back when rumors were flying about that it was basically a new persona or other SMT series, simply with dating elements mixed in rather than the social links. Qbert plus dating sim plus minigames and choice making is not appealing to me. Super disappointed.

Atlus is mainly a Console developer since the NES as far as i can tell
Edit:
they just recently started jumping into the PC gaming market:

it got a 7.8 and higher from all the other reviewers that reviewed it so far (1UP gave it a 10/10)
http://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/catherine/critic-reviews
It's mainly a Story game from what i can tell. a supposedly Powerful story but Simple gameplay that gets hard as fuckin hell, it's still fun though.
This will pretty much my first game i play from atlus's Persona team. If this is really good i might pick up Persona 4 or something
How do you tell which world is the dream world? I mean, on one hand, you have all the sheep people and the crazy tower stuff, and on the other... just look at that crazy hairdo!

I've heard this game was supposed to not only be their attempt at a more mature game, but to test a engine for Persona 5, though could be made up who knows. Loads of people are worried the game will flop and Atlus won't localize 5

I'm interested mostly due to the anime art style and it seems just plain interesting.

From what i read everyone seems to like it, except for some who didn't get the point of the game and just blow it off as a simple puzzle game
I was really interested in it, it looked really cool, and I heard nothing but good things about it.
I played the demo.
I hated it.
Gameplay reaaally wasn't what I was expecting, which is what ruins it for me.
Everything else is great.
I want to enjoy it, but I just don't.

I'm PROBABLY not going to play this game, but I can most certainly guarantee you this game and the Persona series are very different, the stories and messages of all 4 persona games are very good, and the gameplay is amazing, at least 2-4, I couldn't play through the first all the way because it was too slowly paced for me. You should definitely get them regardless of this game if you're into turn-based RPGs.
There's really only going to be 2 main kinds of gamers that are going to play this.
1) The kind that plays it, expecting it to be a hentai-game, and then they get disappointed due to platforming.
2) The kind that plays it for the platforming but gets creeped out due to the weird-ass shit between platforming.
It seems kind of weird with the story having different choices that can affect it, but then the gameplay having a single very clear objective. It's a pretty interesting contrast.
Most pretentious thread title I've seen in a long minute congrats mate

I didn't exactly mean it to be :v:
I was kind of being sarcastic with it but whatever, will take it.
