Hey everybody, I've been looking around a bit for some voxel related games recently. I have actually found a ton of buried treasures that definitely deserve some recondition. And I have no doubt in my mind these aren't the only amazing projects scattered around. One is an amazing looking game: Cubeworld, It's an adventure game based around the use of voxels, lots of features for early development. One of the great things about this game is it's combat system, here's an early video on it! And let us not forget the... giant enemy crab! The developer's blog is at: http://wollay.blogspot.com/ Another good game is Blockmania, I think this game had beautiful textures and great landscape generation. Take this as an example of it. I doubt these are the only voxel games out there this good. I want to know the games you guys have seen?
There's Voxelstein, I guess Supposedly it's a 100% destructible environment, but the pieces are so small, it really takes forever to break anything up
Holy shit. That Blockmania first screenshot / video still looks orgasmic
Crab battle!
Voxatron obviously. Also, god damn, Blockmania is already looking better than MC for various reasons.

Voxel games give me a terrible headache, I've never been able to play through one. They are a great concept, though.
Ace of spades.
Wow, thank god. I was worried when I posted that I would have gotten a bad response. Turns out I have already discovered a ton of games! Voxelstein, Minecraft, Voxatron.
Oh, I neglected to mention you can download Blockmania here:http://www.movingblocks.net:8080/jenkins/job/Blockmania/
Voxelstein is currently only in developement but it is supposed to be an open world shooter with vehicles, dynamic lighting and fully destructive environments and people. You should be able to roam around germany murdering nazis, children, women and jews alike with flamethrowers and shit. Sounds psychopathic? It is. The current playable version is only the 0.1 ancient alpha or something, I don't know where exactly the developement is right now or if it is stopped, I know that some pretty great environments and models have been made though.
Been following Cube World for a few months now. Besides that uhmm, Voxatron if that hasn't been posted before.
Oh god Cube World looks amazing ! There's some Minecraft clone that looks really awesome, and I'm sure they can be better than Minecraft at some point.
Ace of spades.
i remember when this first released and it was fucking amazing. you had to sneak around in tunnels like vietcong and build forts and shit inside hills. too bad it's mostly filled with annoying kids now, and the developer went in a completely different direction.

What changed???
You know in all of those videos for Voxel games kids keep going on and on about how they are minecraft ripoffs. Good fucking god. Voxels are not a damn style and notch didn't create them.
Blockmania looks great but they really should decrease the size of the cubes, so it wont look like a minecraft clone.
Monolith's Blood had voxels but it wasn't built around them. Only the weapon pickups and ammo and keys and shit had voxels.
You know in all of those videos for Voxel games kids keep going on and on about how they are minecraft ripoffs. Good fucking god. Voxels are not a damn style and notch didn't create them.
fucking polygon games ripping off CoD
i played it ages ago. What changed???
New weapons (Shotgun, SMG) Pickaxe is gone, shovel has a primary and alt fire that functions as both now, and you can melee with the shovel. Custom maps are available, new gamemode but it's just a clusterfuck of spawning randomly and getting headshotted and wondering where he was at. Also the combat system for Cubeworld looks awful, it's just blindly swinging and the enemies always hit you it seems. At least make them not maintain eye contact with you so rolling has a point.
http://www.atomontage.com/ The Atomontage engine. Looks quite promising.
Blockmania looks great but they really should decrease the size of the cubes, so it wont look like a minecraft clone.
But it is a Minecraft clone. Blockmania is supposed to be a better Minecraft, not a different Minecraft.
What most people don't understand is that voxels are a technology, and notch wasn't the one who invented them and deserves the least credit for them anyhow. He ripped out a code from a dead game and bended it into his minor changes. Thats what I understand of it anyhow, but I guess we shouldn't discuss into that too far and leave it at voxels are a technology. Anywho, anybody else think that the engine for cube world is pretty nifty? [editline]25th December 2011[/editline] Balls, just refreshed the page to see atomontage post.
The current playable version is only the 0.1 ancient alpha or something, I don't know where exactly the developement is right now or if it is stopped, I know that some pretty great environments and models have been made though.
Most of the dev's updates about Voxelstien only showed props, models, and scenes, and while they do look nice they don't fit together all that well. Along with that there's been very little if any updates about gameplay. They dev does say "you will be able to do this with that" but there's nothing suggesting that any work is being done toward making it actually possible. Maybe something has happened since I last saw it, but it seems like the dev spends more time on ideas then he does on development.
the dev is also a childish racist obnoxious fuckwit. his programming and everything is fine, don't get me wrong, but his attitude is what puts me off from following the development if another version ever comes out i'll be willing to have a go though
I feel like playing ace of spades, anybody want to form a game?
Correct me if I'm wrong but Minecraft does NOT use voxels.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Minecraft does NOT use voxels.
It is voxel based Read up on voxels [editline]o[/editline] Okay I am wrong don't hurt me :(
