How to calm yourself down when raging at video games?
144 replies, posted
Hey everyone, I've been noticing I get really pissed off when I play video games. If our team loses in tf2 I go batshit insane.
Infact, a couple months ago, I was playing darkrp and someone stole my money printers, which led to me throwing my headphones at my monitor and cracking it.
Any suggestions on how to chill the fuck out when playing games?
Stop taking games seriously maybe?
Edit:
Games are meant to be fun and relaxing. If you get so worked up over something that simple you should probably stop playing.
Try playing a nice, casual game of Dark Souls or World of Tanks if you get frustrated

Isn't Dark Souls supposed to be really hard?

I think that was the joke.
I think you should just go outside each time you find yourself raging at a game, even if only for a couple minutes.
Nothing calms you down like fresh air, or even better, a workout.

Boot up GTA4 and start killing people.

Also remind yourself that you are being angered by moving pixels on a screen. That you are getting mad because of lights irrationally changing.
Scream louder.
It'll drown out the other screaming.
When I get mad at a video game. I close it and go outside for awhile. (No this isn't a dumb post saying GO OUTSIDE MORE, I am being serious)
Get over it?
You shouldn't have those reactions and if you are then you either need to solve it or you should stop playing. Cracking your monitor over a little bit of Gmod trolling is irrational.
Ah, TF2. It has been out for years and people still don't understand how to arc stickies to take out entire sentry nests.
You will have more fun if you just go for kills and completely ignore the objectives; it seems like a dick philosophy but it's the only alternative to raging at how bad the team is!
If I ever rage really hard, I just pace around and watch TV for a few minutes.
There was a thread exactly like this a long time ago. No one was serious about answering the question.

Maybe because people need to learn getting legitimately angry at a game is ridiculous
I used to do it all the time in League of Legends but now I just go "nice try anyway guys, next time"
I actually have more fun losing in TF2 than winning, because usually the winning team has all the angry people who take the game too serious and yell into the mic..
Two things I do:
- Weights and exercise: Seriously, fuming your anger into something productive and physically exhausting works great. Even if you're still angry, you probably won't have (as much) energy to wreck shit.
- If you're in private, sound-proofy area. Swear. Just let all your anger out vocally WITHOUT broadcasting it in game. Only time this is a problem is in Skype. Lord knows my friends have heard me explode over the stupidest shit.
If you actually get upset playing video games you are the lowest common denominator

"Having the feelings you are feeling is wrong" is probably the most damaging advice you could give to somebody.
Then again, I think getting angry at inanimate specters is a fine way to let out some rage. You can yell and scream at them, and nobody gets hurt.
Then on re-reading your post, I think you just need to quit when you get that angry. If you feel the urge to "just accomplish one simple task and then quit," don't; just quit and say "fuck it."
I used to get mad at video games, but then I started to listen to chill-ass music when playing. Really fucking helped. Also the whole idea that nothing fucking matters whatsoever.

Stuff like that.
I know a great stress reliever.
>learn to lucid dream
>while lucid dreaming, "go" to the streets of New York city
>image yourself holding a gun (this takes extreme practice)
>the gun should appear
>start shooting people
This should help vent your anger issues! Good luck!

Whoa whoa whoa what the fuck?!
You can LEARN how to lucid dream?
I thought they just happen and you're lucky to experience one.
If I ever get mad at anything I find that listening to a good rag lifts my spirits.
Here's a good one.

Tom Lehrer's music is also good at getting rid of my anger.
Another thing that ALWAYS makes me feel better is watching a good tv show like Red Dwarf or Dr. Who.

You can try to lucid dream, but if you do it wrong you can get sleep paralysis and die.
Stop playing.
Realise it's a game. You shouldn't get mad at games. Get mad at things worth getting mad at.

One of my buddies can lucid dream on-demand (extremely rare) and he did exactly what I posted above. And yes, with enough mental practice, one can lucid dream whenever they want, but it takes years of focus/practice.
take your medication

Apparently I'm destroying someone.
Well then uh... go back to square one of my post with "get over it."
I mean you shouldn't have those feelings, it's obvious that the OP knows it. I also gathered from his dialect that he has a spec of self-confidence so I figured I wouldn't be hurting him.
I don't mean "get over it" derogatory either, I mean it literally. Get over the anger and such as long as you aren't breaking something valuable. We all get pissed at games but "batshit insane" is a little much. Just notice it and find ways to cope when you get angry. Whatever helps you. Lift weights, punch pillows, whatever.
