• How to replace a cd-key in steam?
    11 replies, posted
Hello there, I recently bought a copy of ut3 from a store, I got the key and activated it on steam. Worked great but recently it broke, the store gave me a new one ofcourse. Now my question is, how do I replace it? I have heard of some way through regedit but I have no idea exactly where. So if anybody could help me out here that'd be great.
What do you mean by ''replace'' it? Replacing your steam key?
You can't. It's bound to your account. Try conttacting steam support and asking them to remove the old key from your account.

[editline]04:14PM[/editline] Gonna talk to steam support first. [editline]04:17PM[/editline] Hm, this thread is quite pointless now. Hm.. just let it die.
Go to Documents -> My Games -> Unreal Tournament 3 -> UTGame -> Config In there you open the UTEngine.ini with notepad, scroll down to the end near the end there should be a category called "[OnlineSubsystemGameSpy.OnlineSubsystemGameSpy]" In this category there is a line called "EncryptedProductKey=" Delete this line, startup UT3 and enter your new CD-Key on startup. I'm quite sure this works, but backup UTEngine.ini first.

[editline]04:48PM[/editline] I fixed it, thanks Turbis. But just a bit strange since it still shows my old cd key when I right click and press view key. But I suppose that's what get edited in regedit.

You can register your new key with another account if you like.
Right now you have 2 legit CD-Keys for UT3 that you got for the price of one. I would say use the first one you got (to avoid later confusion that will somehow pop up) and trade the second one + CD's for something else. (You can download the game over steam now and won't need the CD's anymore)
Wait, how can a CD-Key "break"?
Wait, how can a CD-Key "break"?
I'm wondering this too, but I don't want to have to give him boxes.
Wait, how can a CD-Key "break"?
I have no idea, just guessing since two days after I bought the game rumors came that the site is selling stolen keys. :v: Anyway, they gave me a new one and it works great. Steam says this shouldn't be happening so they might fix it. Gonna see what happends.
What, I don't understand your Problem - If you registered it with steam there's no way it is invalid because Steam would have told you so.
