City of Heroes is a MMO. It was developed by Cryptic Studios and is published by NCsoft.
It is currently losing small bases of it's population to Champions Online, but it's still fun and exciting.
City of Heroes sets you in our world, but there are different and strange things about our world in this fantasy. There are Rikti aliens, these guys are mainly the destroyers of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.
CoH is different from other MMO's, you get a travel power at level 14 ( changed to 6 if you have enough subscribed veteran time) and from there you can travel freely with either Super Speed, Super Jump, Teleportation, or Flight. Or you can choose to get Fitness skills like Hurdle and Speed, they will allow you to move a bit faster than normal. You can then upgrade those two to go much faster and jump higher.
There are 14 Archetypes in CoX,
The CoH side has Blasters, Controllers, Defenders, Tankers, Scrappers, and once you reach the cap of 50 you can make a Peacebringer or a Warshade. The Peacebringers and Warshades were added in an update. a long time ago.
The CoV side has Brutes, Corruptors, Dominators, Masterminds, and Stalkers. Once you reach the cap of 50, you can make a Arachnos Soldier or a Arachnos Widow.

The Rikti World Invasion was a global (all servers) event timed to coincide with the release of Issue 10. It marked the return of the Rikti to Earth, threatening all humanity. This world event started on July 24, 2007 and ended on August 07, 2007. A month-long encore followed later.
During the event, Rikti Invasions would occur approximately every three hours. Consecutive waves of Rikti invaders would invade two zones at a time, attacking both hero and villain zones on a server.
Since the conclusion of the global special event, Rikti Invasions can now be triggered by the completion of the Lady Grey Task Force. Depending on the make up of the team completing the task force, one random Paragon City zone and/or one random Rogue Isle zone will be invaded.

The Story of CoX starts around 1918 after World War 1, Statesman, one of the first heroes is involved as Marcus, and his step brother Lord Recluse as Stephen.
Statesman is one of the first heroes of Paragon City. He is the leader of the Freedom Phalanx as well as one of the co-founders.
Instead of coming home in 1918, Marcus went in search of the fabled Well of the Furies. During the war, he had been exposed to Mustard Gas and become ill. He knew that he would prematurely die if he did not find the Well. Friends from his unit joined him in his search including Marcus's best friend, Stephan Richter. They became mercenaries trying to help Marcus find more information on where the Well of the Furies was and how to unlock its power. They were eventually successful and both Marcus and Stephan drank from the Fountain of Zeus within the Well of the Furies, giving them super powers. They would turn out very differently however, as Marcus became Statesman and Stephan became his mortal enemy, Lord Recluse.
I suggest trying this MMO, it has a great story and is very customizable now.
Going Rogue Will Be Released in a couple months I'm sure.

Dead Failed Thread
The Aeon entertainment system ruined CoX for me.
I hated farming enough as it was at 50... Let alone having EVERYONE doing it throughout all 49 other levels. =(
i need to start playing again i got my tanker to level 50 and i ran out of time and money to play that night :(

This is the only mmo i've ever liked.
Too bad I never play subscription based mmos. Got to level 14 on trials, but that's it.
I remember playing CoV. That game was great and I had some decent characters on it. I think I stopped playing because I had to re-download the huge patches and at the time I just went "Well fuck this". Kinda wish I hadn't now.

Okay wtf, when I launch the game it spazzes out, the screen shakes rapidly and it flashes loading all over the place. Something is clearly wrong. I have an I7, Radeon 5870 and Windows 7 64 bit. Whats wrong? :(

I am going to re-subscribe around Tuesday or so as well as pre-order Going Rouge cause it looks like it's bringing some much needed fun back to the game.

Well, it's virtually impossible to team up with people on my server, this game is dying. 8 other people level 1-10 and they were all either AFK or not accepting group invites. We should do a facepunch leveling group or something :)

I've just realised that the servers are gonna be different for EU and US. The english servers for me are Union and Defiant.
