Since there's a thread for Morrowind and Oblivion, thought it would be fair to post Daggerfall.
The key feature of Daggerfall as in all The Elder Scrolls games is the freedom the game offers to players. Players are free to play the game in any style, from an honorable knight to an evil assassin. Players are also free to stray from the main quest at anytime and can choose not to do it at all. Daggerfall features a spell creation system where, through the Mages' Guild, players can mix a variety of different effects, such as fire damage and levitation, into custom spells. The game will then automatically generate the mana cost of the spell based on the power of the effects chosen. Daggerfall shipped with several spell effects that did not function correctly, or simply did not function at all, namely the transformations. Other features include an equipment enchantment system (similar in concept to the spell creation system), the ability to buy houses and ships, vast amounts of clothing and equipment, dynamic political relationships between kingdoms, the ability to become a vampire, werewolf, or wereboar, and the combat system, which utilized mouse movement to determine the direction and effect of weapon swings in melee combat. The political system is supported by a net of Guilds, orders, and religions, all with unique tasks and quests. Joining and contributing to these facilities allows the player to raise ranks and achieve higher reputation in the game world. According to one's reputation, NPCs in Daggerfall will react differently (for example, over time nobles will be more well-mannered with the Player character if he's a high-rank Knight or Royal Guard). Daggerfall has some cartoonish nudity, both on NPCs (particularly witches and temple priestesses) and on character's portrait when you removed all of your equipment. Options to turn off both nudity and blood are available.
Daggerfall also has a combat system unlike Morrowind and Oblivion. to attack, you hold down the right mouse button and quickly move the mouse across the screen. The attack used depends on the direction that the mouse was moved, for example if you move the mouse up the screen, you stab and if you move the mouse to the left, you swing left. To play you will need one of the following along with a copy of Daggerfall: *A PC with MSDOS *DOSBox Daggerfall is considered rare and collectable, so be prepared to pay colletor's prices for an original copy.
Daggerfall was fab in its own time and I own an original copy. Eventually I became tired of falling through the floor in dungeons so I stopped playing it. I preferred its combat system to that in Morrowind, however. I'm buggered if I know where the disc is now.
:0 how long is it.
Looks like Doom with swords.

My Daggerfall disk is scratched so bad that I doubt I could ever get it to work.

They didn't manage to get all of the bugs out. It's great, but one of the buggiest games I know.
Wow, looks good and all, but the graphics rape my eyes! (No texture filtering)
There's a reason no one had heard of Elder Scrolls before Morrowind.
There's a reason no one had heard of Elder Scrolls before Morrowind.
As mikfoz said, it was excellent for it's time. Just buggy as fuck. I personally love it, but that's a bit obvious seeing as I made the thread for it.
Wow, looks good and all, but the graphics rape my eyes! (No texture filtering)
You're an idiot. It was made in 96.
Pretty cool that you can swing any direction you want.
What I find crazy is the size of the game. 63,000 square miles. I know most of it is randomly generated, but damn.
You're an idiot. It was made in 96.
No shit sherlock.
I have to say, I think the lights in the windows of this town look terrific, considering it's over 10 years old.
There's a reason no one had heard of Elder Scrolls before Morrowind.
Uh, I honestly spent more time playing this than Morrowind.
Looks like Doom with swords.
No, that's hexen.
No, that's hexen.
No, that's heretic. Or is it? Never played either of 'em, sadly.
I've played Morrowind and Oblivion, but never this, looks interesting.
Now we need a Let's Play thread for Arena.
No, that's heretic. Or is it? Never played either of 'em, sadly.
It's both, sort of. :ninja:
Somebody is going to make an Arena thread now. I hear good things about Daggerfall. I think it has the largest landmass of the series, but I dunno. Say, what's the "primary" race of Daggerfall's continent? All I can remember is Cyrodil (Imperials), Summerset (High Elves), Morrowind (Dark Elves), and Hammerfall (Redguards, I think).
I pray to god it support Anti-aliasing. :raise:

Edit: Thats the map for Daggerfall
I loved how the world you explore is absolutely massive. It doesn't get old easy. I don't own this, though. However it does make me want to play Oblivion.
Am I the only one seeing the pattern here? It all started with Let's Play: Oblivion, then to Let's Play: Morrowind, and now to Let's Play: Daggerfall.

I hope that's what they make in the next game.
i have an original :)
Fairly impressive for it's time, but i guess you could say that about all the elder scrolls games?

Daggerfall only takes place in Highrock and Hammerfell. This is a map of daggerfall
