The Specialists is a modification for Half-Life 1.
It is supposed to resemble an action movie, many people think it's like Face-Off.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Specialists is intended to resemble a generic action movie, and is often compared to the film Face/Off, though several of the default player models, maps, and some of the game-play elements appear to be references to The Matrix.[original research?] It contains over 29 weapons, many power-ups, and 5 official game-types (although the game has a sixth, unofficial game-type, Role-Playing). Weapons and attacks are highly lethal while accuracy is unaffected by movement, leading to a frenetic pace of gameplay.
One of the features that The Specialists is known for is "Bullet Time"; the ability to manipulate time to pass in slow motion. "Bullet Time" has been implemented in other titles such as Max Payne, but is typically found only in single-player titles, whereas The Specialists is mainly a multi-player modification. The game also makes heavy use of stunts, even rewarding players with scoring bonuses for stunt combinations, and also has a simple, yet powerful, kung fu system for melee attacks. Although it is far from being the first shooter to include stunts and kung fu (notable spiritual predecessors include The Opera and Action Half Life), The Specialists is the first to combine them with multi-player slow motion game-play, and to integrate the various types of combat (shooting, stunting, melee) into a fluid experience.
The various stunts that can be performed are all dependent on the direction that the player is looking in. Weight is a very important part of The Specialists, as it determines a large part of how the game can be played. Carrying vast amounts of firepower will limit the number of stunts able to be performed and the speed at which the player can move, whereas players armed with only knives or a pistol will be able to move very quickly and perform more stunts. The Specialists contains a variety of power-ups, which can be separated into two categories: Passive and active power-ups. Passive power-ups do not require activation: they last until the character is killed, and their effect is maintained for the entire time. All can be found on the map but most of these are awarded after reaching a certain status. Active power-ups must be activated to have an effect. Active power-ups last for three or five seconds depending on which power-up is used. Active power-ups can be particularly devastating when used with an appropriate weapon. The player may only carry one active power-up at a time. - WIKIPEDIA

I love this game. It's a fun, exhillerating Mod. Download it, yo!
Shits been pretty much dead.
It's more of a shitty RP mod now instead of a gripping, action-packed game.
It still kicks ass though.
This sounds pretty badass.
RP ruined specialists :colbert:
It used to be cool when it wasn't just RP though
Fuckin' RP kicks ass on this game fuck you guys.
Back in middle school me and my best friend ran a mafia family on one of those RP servers. We controlled everything. Good times.

The RP is terrible, it's either just people running around kicking and/or punching you, or people who permaban you for accidentally walking into the wrong building, making a small typo, or even having a gun out.
I always sucked at this game and just played zombie mode

It's dross and you just explained exactly why
I loved this game until it became 90% RP servers and zombiemod servers.
The only DM servers left are full of bunnyhoppers that flying across the map at 500MPH and instantly disarm you. :argh:

Some RP server are decent, like actual theme-based city ones.
What ever happened to TS: Sourc- Oh wait, it's like every other source mod: All ambition, no progress.
That might sound like an asshole comment, but it's pretty much true.
Believe it or not, a few years ago there actually were good RP servers, where the community was friendly and the admins were actually decent, and wouldn't ban you for accidentally talking out of OOC or whatever.
Too bad those days are gone. :britain:
Sorry for the bump.
How do I install it? I have HL.
A small group of us in the FPAHL group (what started as the ahl_5am secret hunting group) just had a blast playing this. Was only 4 of us, but fun times were had by all! :v:
We've just got to get a game set up.
I remember playing on a server killed knife hoss. before the 3.0 (i think ) nerfed the katana. that was fun as hell. Everyone was scripting doing crab walk and other bs it got so easy to spot i could beat them with nothing but pure skill.
talking about the specialists i started mapping one of the old rp maps mecklenburg

early progress but since then i've done alot more.
I remember when I played this. If I pressed escape, it crashed my computer, but I played it anyway.
A buddy and me ran a really good RP server back in the day. Hell, I think the thread still exists on FP. It was MrCowHead's RP server, and it was one of the best ones around, really theme based, no petty bullshit bannings.

lol found it

I remember this. I ran a shitty RP server for a while, then went back to DM, then left it :c
Server was "imadaman RP", heh. Ran it with my Alaskan friend, who lagged like hell since I ran the server on my own PC in Finland with a crappy 2mbps connection.

Good times were had, 'eh Flynn?
I played this mod a while ago,I practised on empty servers trying to figure out the controls and stuff.

They stated they never intended to make TS: Source.
They stated they never intended to make TS: Source.
Exactly. The lead guy, Morfeo, went to work for Crytek so he didn't have the time to make a source port. He also refused to let anyone else take the project over to do it, even though there were other internal developers willing to.
Pretty BS if you ask me but oh well.
How do you even crab walk? I never figured it out.

^ Add that to launch options to remove mouse accel.
Just dropping this here for anyone who wants to play goldsrc games and hates mouse acceleration.
I want to play this so bad. If only.
Aren't they making The Specialists Source?
Aren't they making The Specialists Source?
I've seen two unofficial ones floating around. One was called ts source and the other bullshitted it up even though it was totally just a copy of it but on source.
TS is honestly one of the best FPSes ever made (although in 3.0, kung fu and boosting are overpowered and guns don't do enough damage)
also RP is retarded
it's all just people standing there doing nothing but not AFK with anime names, acting super arrogant. I usually threaten them, disarm them when they pull out their guns, grab their gun, kill them all, then throw their gun onto a roof and run away
do you have to have half life 1 for this because i have half life source and it doesent work :/

It's a Half-Life 1 modification...of course you need to have it.
