Trolling The Media: The making of a controversial game
71 replies, posted
As the game I'm currently working on's development is coming to an end I've been brainstorming new game ideas lately. I thought a controversial game would be fun to do.
Controversial games are always being featured on news programs, so I don't think it'd be too hard to get at least an article on CNN.com. Maybe the game could even be shown on TV.
So the idea is to make a really controversial game and send press releases out with screenshots, get a buzz going. Set up a website, have a release date, everything. Make it seem professional and legit.
We release the game through torrents on piratebay, demonoid, etc. before the game's official release date, and then on the release date we sell the game for $20 a copy on the website. With all the media attention and the whole novelty of the game we can probably make a bit of money, which will be shared with all contributors.
We'll make up a name for a game company, and try to remain as anonymous as possible. Everyone who contributes to the game will come up with a "real name" alias that will be used in the credits, on the website, etc. So nobody's real name will be tied to this.
I've thought of two game ideas so far that would be controversial enough to get covered by news media, but not too controversial that they'll get completely shunned. This is a brainstorm, so it's open to any ideas.
1. Play as one of the 911 hijackers, slash some throats, get into the cockpit and fly the plane into the twin towers.
2. "Don't Kill Your Family", where you play as a teenager with too much angst. Your objective is to last a whole day without killing your family, but with knives everywhere and bombs to play with the player will eventually kill their whole family. Level 2 sees the player getting sent to court, but they end up killing the judge and everyone there. Then they get sent to jail and kill their cell mates.
So does anybody have any other game ideas, and is anybody willing to participate in this?
TL;DR: Let's anonymously make a controversial game, get featured by the media, make some money off the whole thing.
Just make Fuck Shit Up.

The name itself will probably get controversy
I have no skills that could aid with development but if you need someone to pretend to be a concerned parent let me know. You could even mark my alias down as the PR guy so the media ends up contacting me first. :v:
Pretty sure a game that lets you crash into the WTC is gonna get you a good article
be sure to make it have 4 player local MP with two in each plane
Make a game where you can kill kids.
Instant news coverage.
Game where you play as Fox News and you manage all what happens in the business and make the most biased and ridiculous news as possible based on events happening by any means possible.
George Washington/Other respected American figure eating babies, etc.
Al Qaeda: THE GAME
you may even get a few action figures :V
Lots of naked women, and call it art.
Making controversial games just for the sake of controversy is a bit silly.
School Shooting Simulator, the first person shooter where you shoot up a school! Bonus modes include shooting up a orphanage and a school for the physically and mentally disabled.

A game with that name wouldn't be taken seriously

If you're willing to write complaint letters to the media that alerts them to the existence of our game that would be great. You could manage a whole campaign and get people to send letters, e-mails, etc.

that goes along the lines of "don't kill your family", which would include a younger sister.

I don't see the point of having two separate planes in multiplayer, but multiplayer hijacking sounds fun.

that doesn't sound controversial enough, and it wouldn't be taken seriously anyhow.

Maybe if we made it historical it would seem legit, like a play for play of columbine or virgina tech. We would say that it offers a view into the deranged's mind, and we made it for the good of mankind. So making it seem like more than just a kill fest, and instead something deep would probably make it more appealing for the news media to report on it.
Killing the Fox News staff.
Hell, make an actually legit game that is semi-controversial. For example, a paintball thing set in a school. There's nothing wrong about it but parents will fuck that shit up.
World of Glenn Beck plz
Electric Retard: The Game
I'll be a beta tester.
A surgery style game where you give abortions, starting with a coat hanger in the alleys and you move your way up to your own clinic.
Just make Fuck Shit Up.
Someone has to do it.
A game where you sneak into a hospital, and your objective is to kill and maim the babies there in the most brutal, unimaginable ways possible. Your character is a retired abortionist who despises babies.
The name is "Baby Slaughter".
Make an "artistic" game, where you run around murdering naked women, in fucked up environments. and make sure to put lots of sex and violence in it.
Make a sequal to Left 4 Dead
Oh wait...
Have different levels for different things, 9/11 could be one, maybe the something to do with holocuast could be in it too. Then you know Mel Gibson will buy it.

Well, if the media notices a huge campaign against your game before it's really known by anyone they'll realize something is up.
a game where taboo shit stuff happens like gore and blood and sex
basically, make swap.avi the game
Aiport, guys with guns, shooting people. This normally gets games into the news
