On-topic: Personally, I'd say that Americas Army II is a very good free Multiplayer FPS. If that doesn't do it, Ijji has a collection of decent free multiplayer games (In all kinds of genres).

This game is so buggy, I used the "noclip" cheat and the npcs started freaking out and declaring me their god, needs a patch now!
