After reinstalling windows to clean up my computer, I recently reinstalled steam. I re-downloaded two games, Half Life 2 and Garry's Mod. When I try to launch either of the games, the "preparing to launch" thing comes up and then it just stops launching. I checked it in the task manager and it just disappears after it finishes preparing to launch. I also noticed that in steam chat for that split second before it disappears I appear to be in game according to steam chat. I checked to see if it was something i might have downloaded for either games by reinstalling steam again, and I still have the same problem. My buddy told me it could be a video issue. So he had me add -dxlevel 80 to the launch options and it still wont work. Could somebody tell me why it isn't working and maybe how to fix it?
Have you updated your drivers?

Yes.
And I did that before I had the problem. So, I have no clue what do to.
It appears you have the same problem I had. Here, let me post what a Valve guy said to help me.:

Valve has a help support for a reason. This happened to me with L4D.

Alright, well, that didnt work, so im going to that steam support list now.
Maybe you have to turn the valve?
har har har har. Well, as it turns out, my drivers werent properly installed. So i reinstalled them and now the games are working fine.
